If we do miss out on the CL...

I like many others on here read the book "Pep Confidential". A few points that came through very clearly from the book:
  • he didn't have chance to get all his ideas through and perfected in his first year at Bayern year even with the long German winter break and the 2 week training camp in the sun
  • he spoke of the squad being totally knackered when they broke off for the winter break and that it couldn't come soon enough
  • He wants maximum time to prepare and coach his players and also maximum time to analyse and prepare for the opposition in the next game.
The greater number of games in England is going to mess with this.

So, paradoxically, being out of the CL for 1 year only could have major benefits in terms of him having more time to spend with the squad for his very special brand of coaching and for the team to embrace his methods. This assumes we don't take the EL too seriously ( financially the money is so low compared to CL) and use the EL for youth development/squad players. This would put us at a big advantage in terms of the PL because of less need for rotation etc and he would get the team closer to where he would want it to be far faster than otherwise.

So, potentially not a setback but a big positive. Also, I'm sure he personally is not too unhappy about Pelle underachieving - presumably that is preferable for him rather than when he took over g over at Bayern after their treble.

I wouldn't really be bothered as the CL does nothing for me although i know that is against what the club wants,if we can concentrate on the league and cups that will suit me,play the kids and backups in the europa

That has got to be a big positive. Pep will have more faith in youth than Pellers and the Europa league will be an ideal tournament to give them some serious competitive football before they get their chance in the premier league.

Pep and the players will come here for him although it may cost us more than planned,as for the money side i have no idea

Well, according to one of the papers this morning the snotty-nosed Wundercunt outdid the City BILLIONAIRES, dontchaknow! So money is no object. Prestige will take the beating.

Anyway, aren't we already in the Europa by stint of Willie's heroics. I fancy we'd terrify Europe in that competition. Mind, I think I've heard that one before, somewhere!

Honestly wouldn't give the slightest toss of missing out on CL if it meant we won the league next year.

If we do, id expect that Khaldoon and co will be getting a fucking rocket from the big man.

We wont be privy to it, more's the pity but it will happen.
Rightly fucking so. We are supposed to have "football people" in charge so how are they letting our manager continue with some of the worst decisions I've seen at City I'll never know.

I can take the crap from the media for one year.young willy has ensured we are in the europa league

@Prestwich_Blue any ideas how this will affect us financially in terms of bringing players in?
It will cost us over £50m I believe if we fail to qualify for the CL. Difficult to be precise as it depends on the Market Pool, which is divided up based on how much each country's TV revenues contribute to the total TV revenue. Might well be upwards of £60m. That may well wipe out any profit for 2016/17. The club has been negligent in failing to act.

jeeez, thats a huge financial hit for the club, regardless of how wealthy we are

Can't see why everybody is now so bothered. All i've been reading on here for ages,
is that it's a shit, corrupt competition. So what would we be missing ?

the current non-City players all like it so in theory it'd be harder to recruit. But Pep and vast, vast riches might be able to help that. Though we may have less to spend if we don't get it.

Sorry to be a pest, but in terms of FFP and our spending, how big an impact is -£50m CL revenue likely to have on us? I.e. is this still serious money, or with the current sponsorships and other revenue streams is it basically pennies as far as the club are concerned?

Personally I wouldn't care as I don't see City winning the champions league any time soon. The problem is the END OF WORLD outburst the media will throw towards us if we missed the top 4.
