If we do miss out on the CL...

It's a simplistic calculation Pam but we amortise player contracts over the life of that contract. So if we buy a £50m player on a 5-year contract, that goes through the accounts at £10m per year. Under FFP we have to break-even of course so losing £50m of revenue in a single year, potentially means that we can't spend £250m on players this summer as, presuming they all come on 5-year contracts. That £50m is the annual cost of those transfers. Of course there are other factors to take into account and we'd hope to be back in the CL the following season but potentially that's how much we might "lose" from the transfer kitty.

If the club are bothered about making an extra £500k by pissing off half the fan base with ticket prices, it's a fair guess that £50m might be a tad annoying to them! If it doesn't happen it serves them right for not being decisive enough. They only have themselves to blame ultimately.

I think Liverpools signings over the last 5/6 seasons highlight how much it affects clubs. They may be able to buy the odd good player but it's usually at the expense of selling one.

Only the rags have the financial clout to absorb this with FFP rules.

I say that we should sell Bony, Toure, Kolarov, Fernando and Navas to China for 250 million. Problem solved.

It may affect who we can sign but on the plus side we'd perhaps be signing players who are prepared to graft for the results to get us there rather than ones who think they've hit the jackpot joining us.

Love the blue tinted specs. Only a blue could decide having less money to spend is a plus. :-)

Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don't know whether you're in a trough until you're climbing out, or on a peak until you're coming down. And that's it, you know, you never know what's round the corner. But it's all good. If you want the rainbow you've got to put up with the rain

If we don't end up qualifying for the Champions league but qualify for the Europa League, I cant really see what difference it would make to players joining us and not to be honest.

They'll be joining the Pep project and a season in the Europa won't sway a decision either way... Put it this way, it definitely won't stop us making the marquee signings...people make too much of this "players won't join unless you're in the Champions league" bollocks.

If a player wants to join us, they'll join regardless.

Positive thinking.

We are already the first English team to qualify for Europe this year - as winning the cup brings a Europa League slot regardless of league placing.

I don't think even Leicester have quite yet sewn up a Europa place on league points.

So yeh - go City!

Does anyone know if that involves qualifying or gets any seeding?

By the way, we are still in 4th. And only have 3 gmes (chelsea away, southampton away, arse home) that i dont think we will win. If we won 5, drew 2 and lost one, we would probably come 4th. Also remember arsenal are slipping and more than capable of bottling 3rd. Calm down everyone, cos every little thing, is gonna be alright...

3rd round quaifying. But we wont finish lower than 5th

But if we did finish below both United and West Ham so 6th or 7th wouldn't having to qualify early mess up lucrative pre season tours etc?

Even more reason this has to be avoided.

For info: 4th place means CL play-off and dates are 16–17 August & 23–24 August 2016 - The PL starts the previous weekend so it's not an early start.
I think 6th place and League Cup means EL 3rd qualifying round and dates are 28th July & 4th August followed by play-offs on 18th & 25th.
5th place is straight into the group stage.
From Wiki so read instructions before opening package.
