why do we always attack the family stand in the 2nd half?

I agree completely. To hand over a huge end to opposing fans for cup games is one of the stupidest things in the history of City, & we've had a few.

But it's partly the fault of those fans who demand that standing right next to a bunch of fat Geordies is essential to backing our team. Throughought the history of football it's the home areas which have been famous for creating atmosphere but at our place these days, it can only happen if the people involved are pulling faces at away fans.

No idea why that is the case at City. Nowhere else seems to have that problem.

Behind the goals is key to atmosphere and we have away fans one end and the family stand, the other.

Its just wrong imo.

The ratio of goals scored by us is vastly superior at the FS end.

Every season since our 10 goal season it's been our most productive end. I was in there rather than the SS that season.

I think we score more second half goals as in general our opponents are knackered by then.

The only game I can remember ( there will have been more) where we did the SS second half was a 6-0 hammering of Portsmouth.

Because teams have tired

Everything at the Etihad has been wrong re creating atmosphere since it opened. Moving half of the singing fans from Maine Rd to level 3 in various areas being a prime example.

A lot of it though has come through consultation with fans & being told the wrong idea by people with no idea.

They should have put the away fans in level Z & told those who want to mess with them to fuck off.

Agree. I went from Kippax AA lower to East stand level 2.

It was like chalk and cheese.

I agree with your point about us wanting to be near the away fans to be loud. Think its daft myself...we should generate an atmosphere watching the team and not 3,000 away fans whilst doing "wanker" signs haha

The noise/singing level where I was in the Kippax was 20 times what it is now in the East Stand because they moved all the North Stand fans to the other end & some of the Kippax relocated to try & be in a similar position re away fans, others got stuck upstairs & became becalmed.

I added to the other post that they should have just told the fans who want to mither away fans that they fucking can't & will have to make do with supporting City instead, then stuck the away fans on Mars like most other clubs try to do.

The key point should have been recreating what we had at Maine Rd from our fans, not in olving away supporters at all.

Think we've played a couple of Mark Hughes' managed teams, and they've won the toss and had us change ends so as to discomfort us.

It’s a legacy from Maine Road. Traditionally City would always kick towards the North Stand as away fans were in the Platt Lane end and part of the Kippax, but after the Kippax redevelopment the away fans were moved to the North Stand permanently. At this point opposing teams would warm up at the North Stand end of the ground and then choose to kick that way in the second half of games as the Platt Lane was entirely City. Another consequence of the Kippax redevelopment was that City’s most vociferous supporters transferred into the North Stand (cheapest part of the ground) or block AA of the lower tier of the Kippax. Both positions in the ground were next to the away fans and seemed to ‘enhance’ the atmosphere, especially against the likes of Millwall, Birmingham, Middlesbrough etc…

When we moved to COMS season ticket holders from the old North Stand were moved into the new South Stand as it was the equivalent position in the ground and the practice of having our loudest support next to the away fans as opposed to located in one end continued. Unless we completely reconfigure the ground I can’t see it changing. What we need is one huge, single-tier, safe-standing, side.

I also heard Paul Power say at a supporters club meeting that in the period 97 -99 the players preferred to play towards the Platt Lane in the second half of games. This was because we were often struggling by the second half and the fans in the Platt Lane would typically hurl less abuse than their counterparts in the North Stand.

because it has always been this way and cant possibly be changed.

Even though some players would prefer it swapped, fans would like it swapped, it just stays the same.

club has been asked but no change yet.

I thought it was something to do with the Sun ( before you attack your key boards, what Sun?).when we moved to the Etihad most games kicked off at 3pm when the Sun is shining above the South Stand and directly at the North Stand. As the match goes on the It moves above the CB stand whereby the North stand goal then has some shade and the Sun isn't shining directly at the team attacking the South stand. This all becomes B*****ks though when we have an early kick off.

Because the home team (City) has its name on the left on the tv screen graphics, therefore home team has to attack from left to right. Other way round in the 2nd half.
