mr and mrs jules were caught up in the ecuador earthquake on sat. we caught the full brunt of the quake. we were lucky we got away with cuts and bruises, many wernt so lucky! bahia took a lot of damage, we slept on the street with the other residents, aid is starting to arrive. nightmare!!

Best of luck Jules. It must be awful to experience it and then see the aftermath first hand. (We can just switch the channel when it's too much to take. Terrible I know.)

Stay safe!!!!

I know that the earthquake here is not news, it should be, the coastal towns of north and central ecuador have been devastated, many town have been hit so bad its hard to see how they will ever recover. aid is arriving and the people, and ourselves, have food and water here in the town, not so sure about remote places. its strange to be involved in something that you only ever see on the news in a far flung place, it takes a while to sink in, the death and destruction. the town up the road some 15 miles canoa, has been flattened, we met an irish couple who lived there yesterday and they said the town is no more with many fatalities.
sorry to go on but this place feels forgotten, so much aid is needed, where the fuck are you united nations?!!

waiting for a structural engineer to see if the place is condemed or if we can move back in,lots of cracks in the walls no power or water.

Spent 6 months in Christchurch after the quake there, if it's anything to go by (Ecuadorian standards could be different) lots of cracks are not a good sign for the building.

Travelled through a lot of the area a few years ago, still know a few locals on facebook posting photos, the towns just look flattened. It must be a terrible experience, add in the aftershocks as well and it just keeps going on.
