We are getting Pep Guardiola!!!!!!!!

For all the faults, we are getting somebody who will not fail, even if it takes him ten years.

The greatest asset we will suddenly possess is somebody who prepares the team correctly, regardless of opposition.

Everything else is down to the uncertainty of sport.

It has a context though. That context is the appointment of Guardiola and the coming to an end of a squad's lifecycle. So although I feel this season has been a bitter disappointment ( said a month ago only getting to the European Cup final and finishing 3rd would save it ) there's surely gotta be the point of view that "fuck me we're getting literally the best manager in the world in a week's time".
Oh I agree fully with that. I think the club made the same mistake we did with Mancini and hung on a year too long. If Guardiola is a disaster I genuinely hope we don't keep him 3 years, I hope if no progress (not just titles) has been made a couple of seasons in, we have the balls to let him go. I hope to god he doesn't flop obviously but we have to be stronger as a club overall.

I'm still wound up this morning after next Sunday I will be looking forward 100% as I think next season is going to be a defining season for us, can't bloody wait!

Yeah,it's difficult to look forward when there's still something to play for. It's the hope that kills you.

I think we've been waiting for Pep since 2009. Never mind 2012. That's when Abu Dhabi went to Barcelona en masse (Mansour's brother was there with Khaldoon) and first began the process of wooing Soriano, Begiristain, and ultimately Guardiola. I've got no fears that Pep will be a huge success because a bit like Messi we're literally getting the best in the business.

not if you listen to ( hope i get his name right) journo castinigis on the sunday supplement yesterday who called him a one trick pony( @George Hannah could help us out with the video)

I dont think the players are fit enough, look at Leicester and Atleti they dont stop working. Our players look lethargic and i saw Sergio yesterday go on one run and then hands of knees to recover before meandering back to the half way line (i'm not slating Sergio he's one the most important players ever) its just an observation and i put that down to Manuel and his training. I would love to watch a weeks training to see what they actually do, as i reckon its mostly walk about and play 5 aside if the performances on the pitch are anything to go by

@tolmie's hairdoo - i think the concern is that the first year of Pep's three year run will be in Europa rather than Champion's. Further, that could impact potential transfers in the next few windows. I share that concern unless we think Pep would stay beyond the initial three years.

The club are certainly confident that Pep will stay beyond his initial three year contract.

I do think Pellegrini went into this with his eyes wide open.

He has been on message since day one, an interim, a highly-paid one at that, afforded the opportunity to actually enhance his European club CV with some tangible silverware.

We have perhaps tried to be a little too cute for our own good, in terms of how we prepared for the inevitable arrival of Pep.

I'm sure the medicine Pellegrini was forced to take at the end had him thinking 'these unknowing and ungrateful bastards have all hung me out to dry"....

But he was complicit in the deal, the gift of a Lowry painting, just further evidence of how he was compliant and the best option for the board and the owners.

Maybe its his English as opposed to his perception but he must of had an inkling at least despite his spruik he had the full backing of the board throughout his second year that he wouldn't be given a fourth year.

He wasn't hung out to dry , he was told during the season he was no longer going to be first team manager beyond this season

Of course Pep could have stayed at Bayern but he likes other challenges or a change of scenery at least and it will no different with us but MP must have known this year would be his last and he managed accordingly as some do.

I don't believe he was the best option for this season by any stretch in terms of getting the best out of team.

that we will only find out in the fullness of time

Yes and no. His impact on the club's standing within world football will be instantaneous. Since the takeover his appointment will be the single biggest signing in terms of statements that they've made player or managerial.

Sure he could turn out to be a dud and not win anything but personally I don't think that's going to be the case.

Thanks for the good memories Pellegrini we've won a few trophies which had been good. But I'm glad it's come to an end if Pep wasn't coming I doubt you'd have made the end of the season the way we have been playing.

I've read that comment in lots of places "what would Madrid Barca Bayern do". Well they'd sack their manager for a season of underperformance as we have done. That's not really a surprise. They'd line up the best replacement they could find too, which we've managed to do. I've got no issue with any of that - but really, this is like being relegated? Nah, not for me at all. Comments like that just smack of unnecessary hysteria.
Of course it's not as bad as relegation which hopefully I never witness again. However, there is a bad feeling in the air and the positive this season have just been washed away in an avalanche of poor form in the league for most of the last two seasons really. Also a lot of people are extremely concerned that given our current shortcomings and an ever more competitive league that even Pep may have his work cut out. With respect to the empty seats yesterday I can understand why people left particularly as they were been asked to hang around for 15 minutes to pay their respects

If true, this could simply be a mere bump in the road. Still holding out hope West Ham get a result tomorrow night. Have to.

I'm resigned to our fate whatever it may be. This season really has been the long kiss goodnight and personally I'm simply focussed now on the future. The past, especially the last 18 months, can respectfully fuck off.

Don't disappoint me already Billy , and edit your statement with the words I know that won't be the case.

I am very confident he will be our best manager result wise we have at the club.

The fear factor will return at COMS and the atmosphere ala Seattle Seahawks like.

Kuntanastikis has never forgiven Pep for digging him out at a presser a couple years back, you will need go on YouTube where Pep tells him to "look at me"

A Liverpool fan with close links to Madrid's Valdano.

A very poor excuse for a journalist.

You should read his column today (disgrace)

me neither billy, but am interested in player recruitment in the first instance if we fail in getting a top 4 spot
