Golden Boot
Aside from the obvious hope we sort the CL qualification later, a big side interest for me is the race for the Golden Boot which is deliciously close – Kane 25 goals, Vardy 24 goals and Aguero 24 goals. Not only have I got a bit of money on it but I just love it when Kun goes on these ridiculously good goal scoring runs and bolsters his position as unquestionably the deadliest striker in Premier League history.

In the race for the Golden Boot at the half-way point at 19 games (end of December 2015), Aguero was a long way off the pace which, in part of course, was due to his traditional mid-season injury break.

On 31st December:
15 goals – Vardy
11 goals – Kane
7 goals – Aguero

Since 31st December:
9 goals – Vardy
14 goals – Kane
17 goals – Aguero

Kun has played 17 of the 18 games and scored in 12 of them at a strike rate of 1 goal every 87 minutes. Brilliant stuff.

Premier League all-time best Strike Rate
Below is an extract from the full table just showing the top 10. It is based on players with 50 or more Premier League goals. In addition, I have included any striker with less than 50 goals if they have been a Player of the Year or featured in a PFA team of the year. If anyone is interested I’ll post the full thing.

Aguero has extended his lead at the top of the table on the back of 3 consecutive seasons with a strike rate of less than 100 minutes. That in itself is a record.

Just to put Aguero’s lead into perspective he could play 16 games without scoring and he would still be ahead of Henry. If he went a full season without scoring he would still be in the top 10. Amazing.

I think Aguero, Kane & Vardy will all score today, will be shared this year imo

A great post

He's special isn't he? I wasn't too sure about him when the rumors started about him coming to us. I couldn't have been more wrong though. A fantastic talent and if he ever gets through a season without an injury he will break the 30+ league goal.

I'm not much into all of the media bias but I find it funny the 2 man city players who prove themselves to be some of the deadliest ever both have failed to ever make the PFA team of the year.

Hat- trick for Aguero today, Swansea have nothing to play for, while for City, it's everything, the future, the players future, and signing off on a high for others, those 50/50's will be ours all day.
Let's put them under early on with one of those fast starts

There is certainly no media bias in Dkezo not winning it...Kun makes no sense and is like Messi never winning La Liga player of the month.

I think the manager of the year only ever twice (possibly 3) not being won by the league winning manager and 2 times being City says a lot.

Take it up with the players. I guess they vote on things other than raw statistics, such as the 'story' attached to the player and in those terms the Vardy/Leicester thing has more romance.

I don't really care because I know which striker I want in my team and all that counts is Sergio is the greatest striker in the league. If fit.

Players still perceive things through the media lens. How can it be a rational decision for Aguero to have never made the PFA team of the Year?

Utd fans would say its because City are a little club, the truth is that City are the club that ruffled feathers and no one likes us for all kinds of reasons. Thus when Leicester win the league, their squad cost gets compared to MCFC. When we play a great game, well we should because what did our team cost etc

The players vote on that.

Last time I heard the media talk about the golden boot they only mentioned Kane and Vardy I assumed that although Sergio was close he was not that close looks like they are bias or incompetent or both

It's not a rational decision and doesn't have to be. Besides the media have always been falling over themselves to say how great Sergio is. Comparing the costs of squads is perfectly legitimate.

There is no conspiracy.

His record is under reported which is no suprise with our mwdie, but 102 goals in just over 10000 munutes in 6 years to what is considered by media the best prem striker shearer on 260 in 38000 in 16 years says it all, Serio has the potential to become the leagues all time top goal scorer and think if it hadn't been for injury he would already be closer to it.

His record isn't under reported, Kun is one of the few things about City the media loves. The goals per minute table and quickest to 100 table is regularly shown on Sky and BBC.

he is mentioned yes and lineker does rave about him as you cannot ignore him, but he has hardly been lauded over as much as strikers like van persie, van nistleroy, & henry were, Kane, vardy and potato head you know are gonna be wanked over because they are english talent.

Not the media but the fact he, silva or yaya have never won the pfa award is ridiculous
