I think we have to be realistic about the Mourinho appointment. It will put United at the top table for transfers this summer even without CL football. That's pretty much the only downside I can see. From a footballing perspective, trying to take on Guardiola without a Ronaldo in his side is going to end very very badly for United and Mou.

Expect the bullshit to start in his first press conference too. Anything to distract from his record against Pep.

So long as City buy enough of the kind of players Pep needs - big names or otherwise - l think it will be tough for the rest of the league, Mou included. However, it is hard to imagine Mou won't have some trophy success at the Rags before it all ends in tears; not the kind Pep shed yesterday. Mou will no doubt attempt to get under Pep's skin and that will be a potential irritant.

If this happens it's quite surprising to me, as the Glazers could have got away with another season of Louis & saved themselves a lot of money. But perhaps they had already agreed it in panic.

There are a lot of people inside that club, who have briefed the media that they would not accept a character like Mourinho & been convinced that they were so influential that it would never be something they have to deal with. Well it is starting to look as if they may have to. So does Sir Bobby now have his picture taken with his arm round the bloke he considers unworthy ? Or does he sit in the background, along with like minded people, waiting for him to fuck up ?

A 'Fifth Column' at the swamp. With a manager who has cracked up completely under pressure, in his last two jobs.

Also there are huge numbers of rags' fans who have always been dead against this, most of whom will change their tune overnight.

Fifth column, turncoat fanbase. Ok if he's winning, but if & when it goes wrong ?

Fun & games.

This is actually old school City in its planning.
The politics at united are poisonous, even by football clubs' standards. Ferguson, Charlton and their acolytes, most especially the 'Class of '92' will be plotting against Mourinho from the outset, because if he succeeds their power base will become significantly eroded.

As to rags fans; most football fans are good at blowing with the wind when it suits, ours included. Still piss funny though.

I have just seen the video of United players singing "why don't City f*** off home" in their dressing room after the final. It must be one of the funniest things I have seen....the obsessed debate is officially over....the proof is now on film forever....hahaha!!!!!!!.

The treatment of LVG and now this.....what a pathetic and classless club they have become.

I personally reckon that United are getting Mourinho for all of the wrong reasons.

If they wanted him that badly then they would have got him when Taggert left. He was available after leaving Madrid and if United wanted him then there is no chance he would have returned to Chelsea. Likewise, they could have got him in January when they still had a realistic shot of winning the PL, never mind finishing in the top 4.

They have been reluctant to get him for a reason and it is because everything he stands for is 100% against everything they preach. How will the club who don't sack managers, or play attacking football and bring through youth cope with a manager who is notorious for doing the complete opposite?

They tried to get their Fergie Mk 2 when they appointed Moyes and it spectacularly backfired. They then tried to get a well respected continental coach who met their philosophical criteria. We can all laugh at Van Gaal but he has given the opportunity to a lot of youngsters. Now all that has failed they are going for the safe bet.

One could assume that the minute you abandon your long term principles for short term gain then you are indeed in a crisis. But for United they need the CL and Mourinho is the best possible candidate for that. They will have looked at the emergence of Spurs and West Ham and seen Us and Chelsea bring in top managers and will know that getting a top 4 place will be harder than ever.

Maureen will have to change to appeal & succeed there. He will remodel himself. Expect a change in style, tactics & behaviour

Mr Nice Guy......attacking tactics.....and massive spending for 2 seasons + provocative mind games against Pep.

We've missed the opportunity to dominate them for years & years.

Just because he wants to change his style don't think that he magically can. He tried this with Chelsea the second time round and had to stop because they were shipping an obscene and uncontrollable amount of goals. He had to revert to type to get Chelsea the title. This eventually sent him down the same hole which resulted in the same conclusion - Players downed tools and he got the boot.

Still, good to see the epitome of club class sack their trophy winning manager. Was Mourinho in the stands?

True to some extent, but if City appointed a manager half our fans hated, we would have civil war on here for years, even if said manager was successful.

If Mourinho doesn't get off to a flyer, it could be very interesting, as will be the reaction of Jose's army of lickers at Chelsea.

Maureen will be alright for a couple of seasons because he likes to have a common enemy to play up to, and he will needle about Pep and be a pantomime twat about City which the fans will love. The major issue for them will be off the pitch, because Herr Charlton hates him and Ewar Woowar is too lame to manage it

Think the threat of none champions league football at the end of next season is too great for the scumbags at the swamp and I don't think they will take the risk of keeping with l.v.g with us with pep spurs and arsenal and Klopp at dippers . Think they lose out on money if they don't make champions league again and they don't trust the current manager . Looks like they are looking at the short term fix and then deal with the fall out when it happens . Then I think they will go knocking for spurs manager or Southampton in 2 yrs time

Mou defo saw the writing on the wall at the swamp and preceded to get himself the sack from Chelsea.
Surely everyone knew years ago that he'd end up at the swamp? The only surprise for me was that he didn't just go there after Madrid?
I'm looking forward to hearing about Zlatan's hat trick against Joe during the next few derbies.

So, in an age where every football club professional would rather qualify for the CL than win the FA Cup and we beat them to it, their players sing about us when they land the consolation prize. In a season when we also won a domestic pot and reached the CL semi, while they pathetically crashed out of a piss easy group and were well beaten in the Europa League by a PL also-ran. Brilliant. Enjoy the hurt, baby.

As for Mourinho, while the dream for Blues would have been that they appoint Giggs and, as others say, I do think Mou will have trophy success there, it's definitely a step forced on their club because of what we and others are doing. He'll certainly try to get under our skin (get ready for the barbs against both our club and manager). However, I'll bet good money now that we'll emerge post-Pep stronger than United post-Mou.

Carlos Tevez turned from "Herman Muster Head" to "a blue" at the stroke of a pen, mate

True, but he was never a 'hate' figure like Ronaldo or Rooney, who would both struggle to win over a percentage of fans here, me being one. I will hate watching Suarez for example, if he ever comes here & hope he leaves. I will celebrate his goals but still think he's a ****.

Compare Denis Law to Sammy Macilroy for instance. And the large number of City fans who hounded Hughes throughout his tenure.

Mourinho needs to win & keep winning.

The Rooney one would have been interesting, in terms of supporter reaction, if he hadn't 'bottled it' ;-)

I remember Sammy MacIllroy getting a very mixed reception from the Kippaax when he signed in 1985. Terry Cooke got a generally good reception, so yes, it isn't black and white, and with united fans their hypocrisy is accentuated because so many of them have so readily bought into the crap that their club has spouted over the years, about "the united way", whereas years of mismanagement have taught us to be more skeptical about noises emanating from our club.

I just make the point that to anyone whose football club means a lot to them, supporting a winning team is a hugely enjoyable experience, and many people will find ways of adjusting their perspective, erasing things they've said from their minds, or simply justifying their change of heart 'because the club's best interests are what matter' if they get a scent of something that might deliver that success. It's simply football fans being human.

If you think he got the sack on purpose you're deluded.

BBC 5Live headline news at 11 o'clock 'van Gaal to leave United', next story is about the leader of All Qaeda being killed in a drone strike, followed by a couple of people being shot dead in Austria at a music festival. Then the sports headlines.......'van Gaal to leave United'.

Yep, it's fucking headline news on the BBC.......both news and sport. The place is fucking infested with them.

edwoodwoodwood's only solution to the farcical situation these fuckers have found themselves in is to throw big money at the problem.
thankfully, it is only the has-beens who are willing to take it.
well, let them mop up the leftovers as much as they like, they have such little hope of catching the finest fresh fish.

we have nothing to fear from the appointment of the gougy one,
it merely adds a little extra spice as we continue to put them to the longterm sword.

admittedly, we must be wary of becoming cocky about the fact that we are now superior to them in almost every department from top to bottom,
better perhaps to just see that fact as proof that we are calmly & gradually on the up, with a fine captain and crew steering our beloved ship onwards,
although, truth be told, it is extremely hard to resist the enjoyment of kicking the fuckers up the arse on their way down.

as long as they keep the same owners, down and down will they spiral, for all save the fools to see,
into more and even bigger false dawns.

fuck 'em!
