Tbf it doesn't matter which ones make it so long as they get a fair chance to fight it out & somebody does. If we blow 40 mil it's a bit different but for smaller fees..we are going to lose most of the senior attack over the next few years so with two potential players per position, why not ?

because why would you waste a foreign spot in the squad on a 19 year old Ukrainian who can't even make the top 100 players in the Russian League on stats, who plays in the back-end of nowhere when you want to go and win the CL and need to use those foreign spots on world class talent?

You're putting a 19 year old who needs a foreign spot in the way of a young, English talent who doesn't need that spot and could battle with a world class talent ahead of him in the first team instead. We just seem determined to waste our foreign spot quota this summer, and it doesn't sound like our squad will be much stronger next season, especially if this needless spree on average English players follows through, because they'll have to take valuable foreign spots because we already have the allocation of 4 HG players in our squad.

I would assume though, that if he does actually make the squad, it's because he's exceptional. Otherwise he would likely go out on loan. But does Kelechi not soon become 'homegrown u21' anyhow ?

As far as homegrown places go, we potentially have about 20 players who we could use as 'club trained U21s who are free picks, & if I remember rightly the PL rules are different to UEFA's so if Pep for example rated any of Denayer, Maffeo, Angelino, Byrne, Bryan, Barker, (Garcia? Diaz?), Nemane, Ambrose, Boadu, Tosin, Humphries just to name a few, we already have a much stronger squad before we sign anyone. Get rid of for example 5 overseas players & bring in 4 top ones & use the kids.

Has anyone actually seen him play?

Other than some stat website or YouTube does anyone have anything solid to say one way or the other if he is any good?

If Dortmund want him, he'll do for me. That said, do we really need to be importing 19 year olds from Russia? Isn't that the type of player our new academy should be producing?

Bit hard when you consider the FIFA rules on signing under 18s from outside the EU.

Think he got knocked off his scooter in Quadrophenia as well, another crock

Are we signing David Bowies brother

Actually seen him once. Totally fine, kinda kdb esque, for pennies and a loan this lad could become something.

if he's EDS only, then fine, if he's taking up a foreign spot which should go to a world class player, then I'll be disappointed.

Not like he's proven himself in the back end of nowhere.

Wouldn't worry about it.

We're probably going to be freeing up around 7 foreign spots*. We aren't going to be signing 7 world class foreign players.

*Caballero, Kolarov, Zabaleta/Sagna, Demichelis, Mangala, Toure, Bony (maybe more )

well we should. That's our level now, buying anything less has left us struggling as proved by the past 2 seasons.

we don't sign any. Buying 19 year old Ukrainians who can't trouble the top 100 stats standings for the Russian League hardly changes that, especially when you've got kids who can play that role who don't take up a spot.

So we don't name him in the CL squad. In PL rules he comes under the U21 rule so doesn't need registering.

It's good practise to sign young promising players for peanuts. Even if he just acts as a squad player for a few years you get a squad player and a profit at the end of it.

You can't have too many good young players.

We don't have very many good forwards/wide players in the upper youth ranks. Sancho looks the most promising but he's 16. I don't think the likes of Nemane will make it. Zinchenko might
