Isn' t that only the rail companies?, the energy companies are privately owned by share holders, to take away their contracts would mean re nationalising them and a tory gov won't do that.

Rail and bus companies could lose contracts. Utilities companies come under the regulators and don't have free rein on prices - regardless of who owns them. Renationalisation doesn't come into the picture at all.

My thoughts are firstly that Cameron will not survive this referendum. He has played it so badly it's untrue.

Whoever succeeds him, regardless of whether we remain or leave will not be able to put the party back together, there will be too much dissent. For example can you see Gideon, May, Rudd and Morgan (to name but four) backing Boris? Or possibly, Redwood, Johnson, Gove, Cash and Rees Mogg (to name but five) working with ir alongside Gideon? Personally I can't see it can you?

The government will be a lame duck and have no choice but to go to the country. However you might be correct and they may just all kiss and make up and lead us into the future, or at least until the investigation into election fraud come to light. Again I just can't see it happening.

We will just have to wait and see I guess!

Not how I see it mate. I think Gove and Johnson are too smart to move Cameron out of the firing line. Cameron said that we would do OK if we vote to leave so it will be 'put your money where your mouth is' time. When something goes wrong after a Brexit (as it surely will) he will be the whipping boy and THEN he will be moved out. Johnson and Gove will bide their time before making their move. But I think there are more twists and turns to come yet. When (if) it becomes blatantly clear that Brexit will win then there could be seismic shifts in the Tory party the likes of which we have never seen before.

Yes but ofgem removed the price fixing and gave suppliers freedom to charge what they want, any block of a utilities company price hikes would need to be refered to the competitions regulator and that does not guarentee they would stop price hikes

If only the English were allowed to vote in that referendum.

Even more interesting would be if all of European people got to vote on Brexit as well ....

The lacklustre campaign by big guns against a ridiculously optimistic and in my view dishonest (though I reckon both snp and Brexit do believe their ludicrous optimism) but passionate campaign for change.

The remainders in the voting population quiet , the leavers loud

The polls closing dramatically and flirting with change...

But what happens next....

The only real difference is that whilst the campaigns were very similar the make up of support was a little different I suspect hipsters were out in Scottish vote.

They would vote to remain, just to fuck with us.
The trouble with a vote remain in the UK is Europe will end up with 3 different types one type with the Euro, European countries without the Euro and then the petulant child aka as Britain. No we don´t want your currency, no we don´t want your Army, no we don´t want further integration.

Not forgetting the 16 & 17 year olds

The pressure on Corbyn to come out and stab the lower paid in the back some more must be intense now given the country can't stand to see the faces of Cameron et al. any longer

I'm surprised the remainers have not mentioned the French owned UK utilities. Until we get a trade agreement in place the UK will no longer have water. This will doubtlessly add to the woe caused by the war with Russia, falling house prices, and now it would seem the end of the NHS and pensions.

I agree that the government will be a lame duck and there's no chance of them kissing and making up. But they can't resolve that by going to the country. The country wouldn't be able to put things right for them. They would have nothing to gain from a general election.

If the vote is to leave, many of the Remainers currently in the Cabinet will resign or be sacked. Gideon & co will not be trying to work with Johnson & Gove, they'll be on the backbenches. Their priority then would not be to trigger a General Election, it would be to trigger a second referendum.

The minute it is announced that Leave have won, the battle will start to determine the shape of the UK's future relationship with the EU. Inside our outside of the single market? A Norway type deal or a complete separation? The Leavers are not going to allow Cameron to stay in power and take the risk that he negotiates a trade deal that still includes some element of free movement of labour.

We know about French owned utilities but they are not just going to turn the water tap off. I'm not surprised that Brexiters have raised this as part as part of project immigrants though!

Why do we need French water anyway? Surely we can supply our own water without having to import it from the continent?

We wouldn't be alone for very long. The Dutch recently had a poll which resulted in 88% wanting their own in out referendum, and you don't ask for a referendum on something you're happy with. Euroscepticism is growing across Europe, and countries like Sweden, Denmark, and even France are currently showing majority support for an exit. The tide of opinion is turning against the EU, so what would their response to Brexit be? People presume it will play hard ball, but a lot can happen in the two year negotiating period. If the risk of others following Britain is seen as a very real one, I believe the EU will offer Britain a deal designed to head off a complete collapse, and we'll end up with a two tier Europe with some countries heading towards a USE, and others having a much looser trading relationship.
