Anyone know why for the last few away games of the 89/90 season City changed the maroon and white striped away kit to an all maroon version? It had the collar of the 88/89, 89/90 away shirt but the body of the top we had for the next two seasons introduced in the summer of 1990. Why did we suddenly change 3/4 of the way through the season why did they slightly alter it again for the following two seasons?

I dunno..it just reminds me of my teenage years..yes we were generally shite..but loved going to matches in the late 80s/early 90s..great memories
Agreed, although I was a only a kid football and City seemed much simpler then. With likes of Hendry, Lake, Quinn Allen, White, Bishop, Michael Hughes, Curle etc around then we should have been far more competitive than we were. Our ability to sell the quality and keep the dross must have been unrivalled.

Another kit anomaly in that period was the fact that from 88 - 91 we only had short sleeved shirts.

I think the kit was only used for QPR away as the white stripes and hoops could clash, most aways we would use the blue kit anyway and thought the change was a one-off that season.

It had a certain charm about it. We wore it at west brom for the battle of inflatables game.
was in their main stand for some reason at wba so had a better view than most of the battle of the inflatables taking place on the away terrace.happy days

We also wore it at Millwall the weekend before the QPR game.

cheers for posting that LB.. apologies for going off topic but that little bit of footage was great for seeing Lake play one of his rare right back games( i think the first time was v shrewsbury at home under Machin) he gave away the foul on Malcom Allen which led to the millwall goal, but later in the footage looks a natural attacking right back showing sublime dribbling at speed skills..Paul Lake is still, in my teenage eyes, the best player ever to play for City..
Watching Mark Ward, playing left wing and causing havoc ,altho right footed is perhaps a timely reminder what maybe Sterling will turn into when Pep gets to grips with him..when Wards goal goes in i am trying to find myself celebrating on the terrace, for i was there...Millwall away, wow, an experience.

Wasn't it to do with playing teams in blue & white stripes, and wasn't first worn at Sheffield Wednesday away on new years day ? Also wasn't the first experiment the all yellow kit at Arsenal?

I was at that game and it confused me seeing us come out in that. As well as the fact we still lost despite Pressman being injured early doors and David Hirst saved every thing we threw at him.

Oddly enough, so was I. Lost 1-0 I think.
Can't remember but if we did would have been vintage typical City...enormous away support lots of laughs great day out and a 1nil defeat...very much like Ipswich away under Machin...Blues taking the piss out of home crowd..
Ipswich Ipswich ra ra ra....just as they scored the winner.

Yes we had a decent allocation of seats for that match as our away support was big that season, even for night games like West Brom. We did lose 1-0, Brian Gayle "losing the flight of the ball in the floodlights", or just switching off. ;-)

The all maroon shirt i'm sure was used a lot more than the striped one, possibly 2 seasons? ...striped was one season max.

Can remember me wearing the Maroon away at West Ham (Redmond falling over scoring pen) standing on their north bank, as when I called city they told me I could pay on gate for city end...to turn up and be told I couldn't so paid for home end, Hammers weren't happy at that time, singing sack the board which I joined in with. Having the maroon collar under a sweatshirt sure helped fitting in! (as well as my southern accent!!)
