Sam Allardyce

This. It's been needed for over 40 years, winning the World Cup at home has been something of a curse for the national team as it bred complacency in the FA who stood still while other countries adapted and modernised their approach.

With the FA its all about making as much money as possible. That's why Dyke is in charge. He knows fuck all about football but he can negotiate big deals with sponsors. That's,why Rooney is captain, because the FA will know they will sell more shirts. Unless they is a massive overhaul England will continue to fail in tournaments

I wonder how useful a manager's club record is in choosing an international manager. It's a completely different type of job. Perhaps Southgate would be the best option, given that he's already been working in that way.

We've seen with Sven and Capello that successful club managers aren't necessarily successful international managers. And we've seen the opposite with Big Phil Scolari.

It's fucking irrelevant as they will appoint some puppet yes man to agree to their demands instead of having some testicles and trying different things. Seriously if anyone on this board tells me they wouldn't have taken Andy Carroll as a genuine plan B option for chasing a goal against defences camped in their own box then I question your knowledge of the game. It may not be pretty but we would have beat them with Carroll tonight.

I'd appoint Sam Alardyce and do nothing else too drastic. Academies are producing decent prospects so just give them time.

There's no quick fix. Just be patient and appoint managers who galvanise until the real deals arrive.

I've just read that new Henry Winter book about England and you're right about Hoddle, a top notch tactician and coach but appalling man management, I got the impression he just couldn't be arsed with that side of managenent and didn't want confrontation and when it did happen as on the occasion of Gaza being left out in 2008 all hell broke loose and he couldn't cope.

It was incredibly depressing watching that, I honestly don't know where we go internationally, I'm quietly seething here.

It's a difficult one mate. We have gone through the foreign route with Sven and caning the groups then we played negative in the tournament, same with Capello. The only times in my lifetime I thought we could win something was with Bobby, El Tel and Hoddle. We don't really have a style or anything. We have plenty of possession but no real end product. Roy had no balls and all his game plan was is to bring on numerous strikers. Even if we had Jose he would try smash and grab with this team, pep could never get us winning either as he deals with monster players not piss weak ones. I would have just gone woth Redknappp, not now that ship has already gone. Fuck, I bet even Sherwood would have done better and he has no clue, he would have just said go at them and had no game plan.

I have no idea who or what to suggest for the England team now. The good thing is we have a young group who will improve, we just need a good gaffer in to sort them out.

I'm so pissed off with Rooney and Hodgson. Making him captain to make him undroppable, and Rooney spouting bullshite he should have stayed on just so he could be in Roys plans. What a selfish fucker he is.

Fair one to Iceland I hope they beat the Frogs.

look i'm no rooney fan and he was shit tonight but impressive in the group games and qualifiers and was captain on merit( and was dropped v slovakia lest you forget). yet none of your 5 spurs mugs were involved in the euro qualifiers yet all somehow managed to make the starting eleven for this tournament on the back of a huge media bias towards your club. You mention el tel, but his record is a myth- we were pretty shit under him bar that holland game. Spurs fans just seem so desperate for acclaim and lack humility if you ask me.

The press will be bigging up any Cockney, so Hoddle, Redknapp, Venables, Pardew etc etc

I cant see Hoddle being given another chance he lost the plot too much last time.

Arry wont want the job as he knows its a no win situation for him when he can get paid a lot more to manage elsewhere, and still be everybodies diamond geezer ;) ;)

Venables like hoddle is too out of touch with the modern game, and like Arry knows its a no win situation for him.

Pardew, well he has the beebs approval and he is a twat so he will be number 1 choice for dyke and co

Woy should never have had the job. Shocking appointment and I've thought so from day 1.

Southgate will probably be next up and may be OK in the role and will surprise a few.

To be fair our players had a great season. I think Rose, Dier and Walker all played ok in the tournament. Alli and Kane were poor. Either way none of the players from the England squad will get a pat on the back

We made a semi under El Tel and we could have won the while thing. It wouldn't matter where he hailed from or what team he played for. We were slow in Italia 90 too but could have won the whole thing

Listning to Hoddle, reminded me of proffessor Stanley Unwin
We need a manager with the plums to drop players like Rooney ,when its obvious hes not fit enough or good enough anymore .

With absolutely no bias or city intentions behind this.. I would genuinely pick Mancini

The entire point and method behind englands downfall is simple - mentality.
We are a country of hard fought losers (of course last night wasnt hard fought) and nearly men
Italy and Germany can have average sides but mentality is forced upon them through sheer experience of winning and expectance to step up when needed, whereas england continually fail.

Mancini is the single most obvious candidate who has changed a teams losing mentality to a winning one,

We were nearly men under the new owners until he arrived,
He changed he hope and will to win into genuine expectance - a circa 60 (70% in the short term of title wins etc) percent win rate under him came after he single handedly changed the entire mindset of the club
People will mention capello failed with england but the man was a f*****ng dinosaur, plus roberto has done it in england with us; he knows the league and its deficiencies and how it works..

He wont get it, he wont even be mentioned, but the cold hard facts are staring us in the face..
