"Will the Etihad ever sell out?" - Metro poll

Every ground in the country has un filled seats for a variety of reasons but the media use this as another item n their agenda as it appeals to the click bait armchair fans who never go themselves.

Unfortunately many real fans take it in as well.

I don't think many do. Every fan watches Match of the Day etc and can see for themselves. It's just a wind-up.

Not so sure. On holidays I meet fans of various clubs who do fall for that sort of stuff. All the main broadcasters sly refer to empty seats and find them whether they are in the away section or whilst we are still having a pint, or even genuinely empty and then they bang home the Emptihad message.

There were some pitiful cup crowds at the Swamps but the broadcasters never refer to them.

TV is a powerful medium - why else would people drink coca cola if it wasn't for the advertising that things go better etc?

I was talking to a united fan about this the other day and he pretty much said that the whole thing is one big wind up and is just done because they know it annoys the shit out of most City fans, I think most of us knew this right from the start. I totally accept that and football fans do this to each other all the time. What bugs the fuck out of me is that the media en masse have taken what started as a cheap wind up by united fans and turned it into a narrative that is now seen as some kind of reasonable view of the situation. I guess it's my fault for expecting the media to be made up of professional people who try to report things factually rather than gleefully buying into supporter nonsense in an attempt to embarrass certain clubs, destroy certain young players etc etc.

We often score a late goal when the family stand is emptying so it doesn't look great on TV. Nothing to lose any sleep over though.

The total number of seats we didn't sell for Premier League games in 15/16 amounted to half the empties at the United vs Bournemouth game alone.

I know but it is the constant dripping lie which like the others irritates more than it should. Such as the stupidity of 'all City fans come from Stockport' stuff from people who do not know where Manchester is let alone Stockport. My standard answer to any of the people who use the empty seats to mock is 'I go to watch my team - do you do the same' and if I am particularly belligerent through real ale consumption I get personal about the empty armchairs and empty beds in their own life.

As I get older I do not get mellower.

Great stuff mb. I think we do really well to sell so many tickets and I can see an expanded ground regularly holding 60k plus in a couple of years.

I have to let the rags know about it too. I find they are far more sensitive to empty seat banter because the ones who don't go are deluded enough to believe they have a million reds on their Seasoncard waiting list.

I wish some company hadn't sold the rags my contact details because they keep contacting me to say I can have a ticket in any part of the ground lol!

True. Keeps us onside though. I am sure their success and their attitude towards us in the 80s and 90s, when we had very little to throw back at them, kept City fans tight.

Maybe. It used to be us versus united fans now it feels like it us versus pretty much everyone, especially the UK media. I don't always feel that Blues are "tight" like we were a few years ago though but that might just be my perception of things. We should be because without wanting to sound paranoid the whole fucking world is against us these days.

If you don't give a shit or get aggravated by this daft thread then that's fine...but I do. Hope you got laid tonight as well....seriously.
I started supporting City when we were getting crowds of less than 10,000. So I can deal with a few empty seats in a state-of-the-art 55,000 seater stadium watching one of the best teams in Europe.

Well the significant thing that goes unspoken in the press is how we increased our crowds effortlessly last year by about 6000 despite not winning anything the year before.

I am not sure who gave my details away but I got a series of e mail invitations to go for the expensive hospitality at the Swamp but I used to forward them to the rags I know saying it must have been HMRC who did it as a result of my tax returns and promising that if I got a box I would let them share at times!

I don't need a box - I can get all the tickets I like through the Supporters Club as you know;-)

The reality is I am just hoping I will get one for the Derby now that the Platinum SC holders have just increased their lead on me at the stroke of a debit/credit card.

Time to go out. Now where are those bloody keys??

It doesn't aggravate me because I'm not crushingly insecure about what some sad rag fuck thinks about me or my club.

...or the fact that we sell out most games, or that the thread title is the name of the poll on the page posted as I explained in the original post.

Apart from all that though, yea feel free to be a total minge about it

I would say don't buy the useless fucking rag rag but.......

Out of interest what's the ratio of 54k out of 500k or 78k out of 700 million? Just wondering who are stastically more loyal?

We now have 200 million fans and the rags have fallen to about 500 mil. Please keep up!

If the Etihad sells out we need a bigger stadium, I don´t buy this "It must be sold out" crap. Much better to have 27k people in a 30k stadium than selling out a 20k stadium...

Personally, I couldn't give less of a toss if it was just me and my dog, watching from the sidelines.

I have never believed there was not any United fans who come from Manchester or that all their are from the home counties and there favourite pre-match meal is prawn sandwiches. But I would say it continuously as I knew how sensitive they were about it.

Sadly some City fans have fallen in the same trap. Most United/football fans know the crowds we get and the ones who dont are not football fans of any substance to worth bother discussing the beautiful game with.

We smash our season ticket sales every season, the crowds are an upward curve, Peps arrived and the knockers are scraping myths and half-truths to get a pointless dign in. Life could not be better, enjoy it.
