May takes over on Wednesday after PMQ
Brilliant and well done Mr Cameron - been a great PM.

Another reason there won't be an election until 2020.Has there been a poll as to what party people would support in a GE in the past week? The last one I seen showed a slight Labour lead
A PM doesn't have the power to call a general election any more. She doesn't need to but surely the public clamour for one and the opportunity to wipe labour out if not better than thatcher did in 83(?) must be tempting?

Following the Fixed Term Parliaments Act of 2011, the only circumstances in which an early general election can take place are if the government lose a no confidence vote or if 2/3rds of the house (422 MP's) support a motion to call one.
It is pretty funny now you mention it lolLove the irony in what started as a big dick contest with Cameron/Johnson etc has seen a woman "win" it.
Along with an unelected head of state tooWith the tories having enough seats to pass acts unilatrally and with them effectively annointing a new PM without the approval of the general populous are we now in an elective dictatorship? I am sure there must be some challenge to this.
The fixed term parliament act means the prime minister cannot call an election by petitioning the queen anymore. The only way is for a no confidence vote in the government passed by the government and that is highly unlikely to ever happen because the party will always replace the PM and not give up the whole thing.

We shall find out whether women really would get things done better,Hilary has got to see off Trump,he is a buffoonYep. Right now you have the SNP, Scots Conservatives and Labour and now the Tories led by women. If Eagle gets the job for Labour and with Merkel leader of Germany (and by definition Europe) and Hilary in with a decent chance in the US it's a fascinating development.
You need to look up the Fixed Term Parliaments Act 2011
Well that's never happened before. Apart from Alec Douglas-Home, James Callaghan, John Major and Gordon Brown. With the tories having enough seats to pass acts unilatrally and with them effectively annointing a new PM without the approval of the general populous are we now in an elective dictatorship? I am sure there must be some challenge to this.
I would not expect anything less from the blasted toriesTheresa May's first message for normal people, ordinary hard working people, poor people, disabled people, anybody on Universal Credit and homeless people, both with or without dogs:

She will get a chance but she is a tory so won't be much difference to the rest of themKaren - stop being so blinkered! Give her a chance.
Yes but the idea of elective dictatorship in this country has been around for a while and there is nothing to say they were not also examples of it, in such a modern society, and with politics shifted to personality as much as the party (the fact one main question on polls is who is a better person to be PM) surely it is reasonable to suggest that if May had been leader last year the tories may have had a different set of results and we could be un a hung parliament. Fixed term or not the rules should change that if the PM changes an election is called imho.Well that's never happened before. Apart from Alec Douglas-Home, James Callaghan, John Major and Gordon Brown.
