Champions league Qualifier

Sorry but we need to inject some realism into this debate. We need to sign 5/6 guys this window they can't all be 60 million plus purchases. Clearly some people are unhappy that we do not appear to be breaking the bank to get the very few grade A+ players out there at present. Pep is trying to build a team that will add up to more than the sum of its parts. Some of these parts will be top signings others will be lesser lights and hopefully graduates from the academy. I feel certain that if for example Messi were to become available we would be one of only 2 or 3 destinations he would head to. Be patient we will hook a couple of big fish and please have faith in our new manager and await the arrival of new recruits -in this case a player known to Pep and of interest to Barcelona- before passing rash judgement.

Exactly, it is called a balanced team.

I have more faith in Pep than i ever have in any other manager.

They'd still have to get through another qualifying round before they could be drawn against City ;)

We are in the league route of qualification that doesn't begin till the 3rd round, they are in the champions route so we can't play them.

For anyone confused about our situation, we are in the league route of qualifying which starts in the 3rd round (the 2nd round is currently being played, which is the champions route...pretty much separate qualifying from us) but we don't join until the playoff/4th round.

The playoff/4th round currently looks like this:

The winners of the five 3rd round ties from the league route of qualifying will join them in the playoff/4th round. The 10 teams in the 3rd round are in the picture below. The 3rd round draw will be made on Friday 15th July 2016.

The draw for the playoff/4th round will be made on 5th August 2016.

Referring to MCFC1993's post, the five sides given above (where City are) and the five winners from the bottom 10 playing each other are the playoff teams.

The seeds each play a non-seed. City can't play Porto, VIllareal, Shakhtar or Ajax, as all of those are guaranteed to be seeded (the latter two need to win their tie first obviously).

(I don't understand the last but on MCFC1993's post, as I don't think that those teams can draw each other what with being seeded in the 3rd round).

The 'home side' will not be known until the draw is made on 5 August.

  • The clubs with the five highest coefficients in each route – this applies to both League and Champions – are seeded and drawn against the other five teams in that route.
  • To determine each tie, one side apiece from the seeded and non-seeded pots will be drawn together and placed in another pot, with the first of the two to then be picked out at home in the first leg.

(So they pick one ball from each set of 5 seeds/unseeded, and put them in an empty pot. They then draw them from those two, and the first is at home in the first leg).

Excellent summary and almost complete guide for the draw. Maybe hot/cold balls could be added nearer the time?

All we know is that UEFA will give us the toughest bastard draw either in travelling or opponent.

Yeah I added that last bit and have just realised they are both seeded, my bad, but between me and you I think we've covered it.

Hang on - "The seeds each play a non-seed" - but isn't that in the 3rd round not the playoff round? If all the 3rd round seeds win their games, we're bound to play a seeded team...
