The next Prime Minister of Britain

Suggestions from French eye witnesses on Twitter that those booing were English, possibly press.

I can't wait for day two.

'Outrageous' and 'a liar' – Germany and France lead criticism of Boris Johnson

This is getting embarrassing....

"Johnson is due to fly to Brussels over the weekend to attend a meeting of EU foreign ministers. However, an informal dinner on Sunday night has been cancelled as a result of his appointment. French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault attacked his British counterpart ahead of next week's meeting. He said: 'During the campaign he lied a lot to the British people and now it is he who has his back to the wall."

Yes, that is exactly what i said isn't it... Exactly that... Or, maybe, i applaud people for hard work and "doing well" but also hold the incredibly stupid belief that, once there, you should do everything you can to elevate your fellow man out of the gutter, instead of holding the incredibly selfish viewpoint which has been perpetuated from time immemorial by Torrie politics to look inward and help yourself.
IS there a reason you say torrie and not tory?

Had an interesting email today from someone who used to be a leading political journalist. Basically says that Gove & Osborne were her biggest enemies in Cabinet so they were always going. On paper, Johnson, Davis and Fox form a powerful Brexit power-block but Davis is regarded as unreliable and not a team player, him and Fox hate each other and Davis isn't too fond of Boris either. So it's hard to see them collaborating easily.

His quote about Johnson: Boris Johnson is the new foreign secretary handling everything except Brexit and trade. It would be easy to assume he will be involved in those areas, but they are now in the hands of separate government departments and Cabinet ministers, so nothing to do with him. He will have to get used to spending much time on a plane dealing with things that are not very interesting.

Apparently May believes in having an industrial policy, which she's been knocked back on previously by Cameron, and that the the financial services industry isn't working for the development of business in this country and could do a lot more.

All sounds very interesting - and encouraging

Wow. One or two countries playing hard-ball because we're leaving their precious cabal. And the French in the vanguard. Who'd a thought it?

Cue another bout of pantie wetting from the defeatists.

So the woman hailed as Thatcher II will try to reverse the effects of Thatcherism?

I thought BoJo of the FO was ridiculous enough...

Embarrassing for who?

Literally no chance we can go back to industrial power house. To start up these days requires low wages and low health and safety then like Japan and Germany you keep up with the times and everything clicks in to place. The very reason other than Thatcher Vs the Unions that are industrial base collapsed was the very fact we didn't keep up with the times. The stuff we were producing was dire compared to the stuff other countries were. The stuff we produce now is top stuff but turning to industrialisation while introducing a living wage wont work. Why come to UK pay massive amount on land and building the factory then pay the people working £10 upwards an hour or go to China and pay $2 an hour with minimal workers rights

It does seem to be a bit like ordering the tide to turn back.

For better or for worse, and whatever the rights and wrongs of the policies adopted in the 1989s, we are where we are. Ours is an economy dependent largely on service industries rather than manufacturing industry, and where we do manufacture it tends to be high end goods where the emphasis is on quality and precision rather than cost. Difficult to see, even accepting PB's report of Theresa May's views, how she can practically give effect to it.
