Again, I would assess the pitch and choose between them, fuck reputations. I remember we have played 3 spinners in the past, with Craig White opening the bowling with 1 seamer. Again on the TMS spin thing I heard, Swann said Broad would have a big grin on his face some days in India in the morning, as he knew he would bowl 5 or 6 overs and go and change his bowling boots because he knew he'd do nothing until the new ball. Getting Monty rehabilitated and playing the tail end of the summer would be good, failing that there are a number of young spinners about, Parkinson, Poysden or the lad at Surrey who's name escapes me at the moment.

Fair enough. It's a shame Parkinson isn't a year or two further in his career because he looks a good 'un and he's already trained with England.

He's made funny calls like this before. Even the sky pundits are struggling to find valid reasons.

The cynic would say that this strategy will ensure that revenue from ticket sales and merchandise / food and drink is maximised. Not everyone wants a 5 day test to be over in 3 days ;-)

Never thought of that. In this day of maximising revenue, that could be THE reason. Cynic or not.

Good point, and if that has any truth they should be slated for it. I expect they will have sold tickets for tomorrow, but its likely there would have still been some cricket to watch. However risking the rain is stupid. The only other argument I can think of is that Hales, Vince, and Ballance badly need runs, but if they fil to get them, they'll be out, so it puts them under pressure.

Also overcast conditions suit bowling not batting, so I think bluegirl74 probably has it right, and if so its a really stupid decision.

One of the finest sights in cricket, Ponting run out by Pratt and then completely losing the plot and ranting at Fletcher as he walked off. Whenever I have been at cricket Ponting has got loads, I was at Edgbaston in 2009 and he got so much abuse, and again was pointing at someone in the crowd as we all were singing cherrio to him, the chippy little ****. Happy days.

Aussies play hard, bend the rules, sledge and then when they get it back, they dont like it, they dont like it up em. However, once the game is done they arent too bad, even Glenn McGrath isnt too bad (cant believe i have just typed that last bit)

We didnt need more wear and tear to get them out in the first innings. With the weather being at it is, it seems a risk.
