Gabriel Jesus

We sold him to Barca who eventually sold him on with a buy back clause.
No he wasn't a first teamer but we almost certainly would have liked to keep him. Not saying we are a big selling club but I should think from time to time there will be players particularly Spanish and Latin American ones who will find it a pretty strong pull if they come calling.
2012 the spainish clubs tried to cherry pick but no-one left, the fact is not one of our first teamers have been lured away which is why what Tev wrote was nonsense

Ha. True enough.

Edit: did we sell him straight to Barca? Silly move if you ask me.

Not a first teamer

Suarez had a year left on his contract and Barcelona offered us a lot of money to take a player who wanted to go back to Spain.

It doesn't fall under the category of them being able to buy anyone off us, no more than us selling Boateng means Bayern can.

The fact is, we've had world class players for 5+ years - Silva, Aguero, Kompany etc. and never once has any club even got to the negotiating stage for them. Now they could be the only three world class players in the world who have never attracted interest from Barcelona or Real Madrid, or those clubs know that we won't sell, and don't need to sell, and we make sure our players are happy to stay.

Once players come here they go off the market permanently as long as they're part of the first team plans, and every year that goes by without one of our first teamers getting bought against our wishes confirms that.

I love this thread for all the wrong reasons. It's clear who jumps at any report that says anyone but us. It's also clear that media in England manipulate original reports to fit their agenda. Word tense is key, all the English reports saying Neymar is TRYING to bring him Barca but the actual interview he says he TRIED.

Actual quotes:

"Gabriel Jesus is amazing. He has the level to play for Barcelona and I already invited him to join."

Neymar: "Every big club in Europe wants to sign Gabriel Jesus. There is a reason."

Neymar: "I TRIED to tell Gabriel Jesus about all the beautiful things at Barcelona, how organised, easy and simple things are."

Great post.

I hope this thread goes 500 pages. You've been a step ahead of everyone and correcting them every time and they still keep falling for it! How far can it go and how long will you continue keeping them in line?! Good work soldier.

I wasn't trying to suggest that these clubs could raid us at will or agree with the post that suggested we are easy pickings.
I was initially pointing out to another poster that we had sold a player to them in response to a question.
We are a club with a strong negotiating position and will not easily surrender players we want. I do think that there will be times in the future where we find that some players will find a strong pull to the big Spanish clubs and angle for a move. I'm not suggesting it might not happen the other way as well though, who knows. The premier League is a big pull and we have big pulling power within that league.

I had read this happened earlier as well, and thought it was odd that the story surfaced again.

I've got to see the paperwork these transfers produce. It must be ridiculous. How many days has it been?
Imagine drafting a contract with the %'s split between the club 2 agents and the player. Player's value sky rockets and when an offer comes in and a player is ready to sign everything after a phone call. The club goes "wait a minute let's revisit these %'s we want a bit more." That's allegedly what's going on.

Yeah. I honestly think the club is going to have to do something about that in the future. Not for uber prospects like Gabriel Jesus but with players in general. MLS clubs don't have this problem. Argentinian and Brazilian agents know they have limited funds. The scouts go down and bring back the player with everything already agreed upon. That never happens to PL clubs.

More details are out as to why it's taking so long. Nothing to do with us/Txiki and it won't affect the transfer.

"There’s a legal battle going on in Brazil, where Palmeiras are trying to take the share of Gabriel’s former agent Fabio Caran, who owns 22.5% of the player.

They are suing him because of an allegedly illegal transfer of the player’s rights to the agent’s wife’s company, which is basically Palmeiras looking for a breach to get more money.

The club also wants Gabriel and his agent Cristiano Simões to give them a part of their share, since both of them could recover this money by asking City to pay a bigger signing bonus"
