Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Ter Stegen appears a better distributor than Hart. However, Ter Stegen's distribution success stats depend on his pass length: 48m=63%, 40m=68%, 29m=86%. Currently Hart's pass length of 48m has a success of 59%.

Ter Stegen has kept less clean sheets than Hart in every season he has played. Granted Hart has played significantly more in the last 2 years, but when Ter Stegen last played a full season in Germany 13/14, Ter Stegen kept 9 clean sheets in 34 games with an average of 1.26 saves per goal, that season Hart kept 18 clean sheets in 38 games with an average of 1.48 saves per goal.

Overall they are 2 very good goalkeepers, Ter Stegen is younger, 3.5 inches smaller with slightly better distribution, Hart appears better at keeping the goals out and has proven PL quality. Personally I wouldn't rush to swap Hart but it is not my decision.

Call me stupid, but comparing stats for a keeper who play in different leagues with different outfield players seems bonkers and adds nothing

That's as much to do with City's play further forwards as it is Hart's capabilities. He does not command his box, is uncertain on crosses and has mediocre feet. But he CAN be a fantastic shot-stopper. And people tend to notice those types of 'keepers.
His punching had got better year on year, I would like him to have the confidence to catch more, his shot stopping is good as you say but I think he's the best there is at one on ones.

Gundogan can play them and he'll be fit in 3 weeks.

And the premier league is not played at a higher intensity than Champions league games or clasico's.

If people really think he's going to be taken aback by the level of the premier league, they've been watching too much sky sports bigging up "the best league in the world"
I certainly don't think the Premier League is the best league in the world, in fact sometime I think it is positively shit in terms of quality compared to some other countries. But I do think it is a very different league from most if not all others. You only have to hear what many foreign players say when they arrive and play in their first season to realise that.

We won't be ditching joe 5 days before the season starts and this guy will not leave barca so we just get on with it for now

Shame...for £40 million, i think we should have taken Everton's offer and purchased Bravo. I honestly can't see Hart adapting to what Pep requires, and in a year's time, i doubt he'd command the same fee.

Not too much of this is under debate. He's a very good - but not great - goalkeeper. And he's been a great servant. But if Pep deems his distribution to be inadequate none of this matters.

You can assess relative skills like passing accuracy and average saves per goal. Its not perfect but neither is any comparison on stats. Even within the same league each team has different outfield players. Looking at the stats of players who have played in different countries/leagues/teams, (eg Courtois or Ter stegen), personal skill stats can be surprisingly consistent and valuable.

I'm sure many swear by stats. I simply hate them as they can be manipulated to reach a desired outcome

the shambolic defense is also part of joe hart.

a keeper is more than just a keeper he should command the defense! organise it read the game. it is not an easy task thats modern football.

Regardless of us getting Ter Stegen or not, the continued media speculation linking us with many keepers is likely damaging to Hart's form and confidence.

He went through a similar blip a few seasons ago following speculation. Hopefully he will bounce back like he did last time.

We seemed to have had 3 fit experienced CB's available for Sunday, Denayer, Mangala and Otamendi but none were played. I don't know if any had knocks?
Having a "makeshift/experimental defence doesn't breed confidence and stability.

We can't have it both ways - he can't be great because of Mancini's defence, but dire because of his own failings.
He was a part of that great defence, and now he's part of our poor defence. His weaknesses are simply more exposed along with the weaknesses of our defence (and of England's for that matter).

Mangala is supposedly on his way out and was left behind for that reason. That's the press speculation at least.
