Rio cost almost 30 million twenty years ago so obviously Mangala at 32 mill was nowhere near the top 20. The point being that each fee is adjusted according to when it was paid.

For information purposes the two most expensive acquisitions until Pogba have been Schevchenko and in second place Rooney.

The point I was making is that by these figures City have in no way bought success compared with Chelsea and United.

I suspect the index is not entirely linked to inflation but also takes into account what people were spending on players at the time.

For example the year we bought Mangala, United spent 65 million on di Maria and Madrid 90 on Bale.
