Slovakia v England match thread

WTF was Sammy Lee doing there and how does Martyn Margetson get a job as a goalkeeping coach!

Margetson England's goalkeeping coach??? The worst keeper I have ever seen at City in 48 years! Shots went through and under him he was atrocious.

The funny thing is that the top 9 managers in the league are all on another level to big Sam and the FA couldn't attract a single one of them

Pep, Mou, Klopp, Conte, Wenger, Ranieri, Poccetino, Koeman and Billic are miles better than this dinasour but the fact is that the FA couldn't get one of them; says an enormous amount about the state of our national team

According to him in an interview last night, piss can and Mourinho are the only managers with a better CV.

He said it with a straight face as well

He'd still be my ideal pick, especially as hes English and the fact i dont want Bilic to go anywhere!

Not sure why we try to qualify. As soon as we meet a team who can play, we will be sent packing. We are so far removed at international level it is embarrassing how the media try to hype us up when we enter these tournaments.

IMO we have again got the wrong manager in and already players are dictating the landscape

i think it was a good win in the end. not the prettiest to watch but as long as we qualify couldn't care less. we dont need world class players to do well in a tournament as leicster and wales have shown, we need a system and players that know what they are doing.

I found it amusing that BFS couldn't get his team to deal with the parked bus.

I bet it's the first time in his managerial career that he's come up against one.

You think there was a system and players that knew what they were doing?

I understand the point about billic with yourself being a hammer; but are you seriously telling me that this dinasour is the best we could do?

I don't think anyone would satisfy.

When Allardyce was being touted around, loads were saying that the FA would never appoint him as he's not a 'yes man' ... Now it's the same old cliches that are used against every England manager we get.

All this abuse after ONE match - in which we won, completely dominated and could have won 5/6-0 ... Some England fans made there mind up about Sam and certain players after half hour and that's it now, doesn't matter how we play or do - unless we win a tournament it's the same abuse.

As for Allardyce, I do rate him as a manager, he gets the best out of average players - and for us at West Ham he worked wonders getting us promoted and stabilized in the Prem, he laid the foundations for where Bilic has taken us. No, it wasn't pretty at times but even the best teams in the world scrape results. That's football.

I think the moaning was because he's just picked near enough the same team that failed recently, and failed absolutely miserably. He's got the the chance, given the recent debacle, to go in and change everything. What's he done? Sweet fuck all.

Then his fucking captain goes on record to announce his retirement in two years.....yep, two years. A player who has been on an alarming decline for the last 3 years, and who, if he played for anyone else, wouldn't be getting a start. The manager then says that Rooney can play where he wants. Jesus fucking Christ, what is going on there? I know what's going on, the manager is in Rooney's pocket. He can play when he wants, and where he wants. It is fucking ludicrous.

Tell you what, it wouldn't fucking surprise me if Rooney didn't tell Fat Sam to leave Rashford out of the team. Rashford played fuck all minutes really at the Euros, but came away with his reputation enhanced. Why wouldn't the manager pick him? I'll tell you why, Rooney. Yep, I'm calling it a conspiracy against the new chosen one from the Swamp.

I'm happy knock the England team as I'm a Jock, however I can also be honest about what I've seen.

The tail is wagging the dog in that England team right now.

I would have been delighted by any of the top 9 managers excluding Pep, yet we didn't try to hire a single one of them as we have this nonsensical idea that our national manager has to be English, despite nearly all English predecessors failing.

I have always been on the side that allardyce is not good enough; look at his record, the closest he has got to winning anything is a loss in the league cup final and he has a truly diabolical winning percentage.

So not only is he not a winner, his football is dire to watch as last night showed and clearly doesn't even have the balls to drop an underperforming Rooney; never mind telling him where to play despite being the manager.

The only way he'll get people onside is by doing well at a major tournament, hodgson proved qualifying means sweet nothing as long as you get there so I refused to get carried away if we beat Scotland 5-0 or beat Brazil in a friendly

If we had appointed Pep or Mourinho I would have been delighted but a big part of me would still have rather a passionate English manager, which Sam is.

We had foreign managers in Capello and Sven both with a CV showing many domestic trophys. Did it count for much ?

You are right, the only way a manager can get fans onside is doing well at a major which means before that, whatever team, formation or players he picks gets ridiculously criticised. Everyone on here makes good points on Rooney but it's coming from a City perspective. West Ham forum is all questioning why Antonio didn't get a run out. No doubt Liverpool fans will all be questioning why Sturridge didn't start etc. England fans just care about there own clubs players and moan if the team isn't how they personally want it. What chance has a manager got when every fan has a different idea of a starting 11 and formation.

Passion means absolutely nothing if you don't have the tactical nouse or winning mentality to go with it, neither of which Sam has

Sven actually did a lot better than most English managers have done in recent years. Between keegan, McLaren and hodgson with four major tournaments between them, we have one quarter final appearance and one last sixteen appearance; between Sven and capello who also had 4 major tournaments we had one last sixteen appearance (knocked out to an excellent Germany side) and three quarter finals; which is the better record between the foreign and English route?

The Rooney issues has nothing to do with united, not for me at least. It is because he is desperate to cram a player in and is giving him freedom to a player who is not intelligent on the pitch, if he was intelligent he wouldn't be dropping into a defensive midfield roll. To then come out and say it's not his place to tell Rooney where to play just compounds it

You think there was a system and players that knew what they were doing?

not really. I'm saying thats what we need. its only his first game, so being realistic it wasn't going to be majorly different. we won though and thats what mattered
