You are right, the only way a manager can get fans onside is doing well at a major which means before that, whatever team, formation or players he picks gets ridiculously criticised. Everyone on here makes good points on Rooney but it's coming from a City perspective. West Ham forum is all questioning why Antonio didn't get a run out. No doubt Liverpool fans will all be questioning why Sturridge didn't start etc. England fans just care about there own clubs players and moan if the team isn't how they personally want it. What chance has a manager got when every fan has a different idea of a starting 11 and formation.

The football under Capello was atrocious so having a manager with a flashy foreign surname isn't the be all end all.

Sam has had 1 game and picked 1 squad so obviously needs more time.

i just think we should be looking at what teams like wales did and try and follow a similar path. they have poorer quality players imo, yet they know the system and play as a team. we have some really good young players coming through, with the right management and determination we can do well. you dont have to have world class players to be a good team.

Like any new manager, Big Sam deserves a fresh slate.

It doesn't matter what squad he picks and what quotes people nit pick. He should be judged on performances and results.

He's played 1 game against a tricky opposition away from home, we dominated, we kept a clean sheet and we won.

If it was possible to play england we would destroy them, build up play is so slow we would have them chasing shadows, cant remember off hand what eng's rec defeat is? But fuck me we'd beat it in 2nd gear!!
 
For the long-term good of English football, I hope we fail to qualify for the WC. Unfortunately, our group is so shit it would take levels of ineptitude beyond even BFS and the likes of Rooney & Henderson for this to happen.
 
I'm not sure what fat sam can do to get England to a competitive standard. If we want to match Germany, France, Spain, Belgium and the like, the England team need a talented midfield. Defence is ok, attack is better than ok with some good options but the centre of midfield is woeful. Until thats resolved the England team doesn't have a prayer. I can't think of a single English midfield player that would get anywhere near playing for a France Germany or Spain. Therein lies the problem.

I feel the same I want us to get beat every time we play but unfortunately we are in a dog shit group again, we are stuck with big fat useless jowly **** Sam and the granny shagging weetabix gargoyle for 2 years, hammer will continue with his up beat nonsense after beating pub teams, we will go to the World Cup and get knocked out pretty sharpish.

Rooney will retire as the greatest English striker ever, put on 10 stone and will be snapped up by Sky, the fa will have a inquiry, the media will say it's the worst tournament display ever forgetting all the previous ones, the same players will get picked, a winter break will be discussed and the elephant man will come in.

We will then get a dog shit group, beat Lichtenstein 2 0 and hammer will be positive about the result. Chesterfield supporters and other fans from clubs with no hope will still follow ingerland and we will get more spine tingling versions of the great escape.

The rest of us will just carry on laughing at the whole sad circus.

Agreed.

England v Scotland will be like watching Crystal Palace v West Brom. I fully expect Scotland to win it as their players give a fuck.

I'd sling Kane over stroppy Sturridge all day long. Just make sure fat Sam doesn't make him take free kicks and corners like brainless Hodgson.

I hated Fat Sams comments about Rooney. He said he doesn't pick where he plays, insinuating he doesn't have a choice. Why are we basing our whole team on a declining player. We should be working around kane who bangs them in the league. Instead everything is worked through Henderson and Rooney

Agreed. I wouldn't want Walker in the starting line-up either. Sturridge can be hit or miss, but most importantly NO SHREK!!
