Disappointed no one has mentioned part time golfer and full time shithouse Rory Mcilroy. Although with so many to chose from it is understandable.

Very good! A bit off topic I know, but interestingly Tavaré was an attacking batsman in county cricket but was called on to do a defensive job for the test team and as such, he gets a bit of an unfair press. Botham is very complimentary about him in his autobiography.

He's certainly no Viv Richards though!

Funnily enough, I looked him up on Wikpedia after posting that and I noticed that about his batting style being more attacking when he was younger, which I found surprising. Watching him and Boycott at the crease was utterly turgid at times. I seem to recall Tavaré being booed when he got a century in an Ashes Test in Australia because of the length of time it took him to get there. It's amazing how much the game has changed in that time. Someone playing in that style simply wouldn't be considered for Test Match cricket anymore - thank god!
