Matt Gray has died aged 80. A good four years playing for us mid sixties. In tandem with Alex Harley forming a very good partnership.
RIP

Matt Gray gave City good service and was a very underrated player. I particularly remember him going in goal when (in pre-sub days) Harry Dowd broke his finger against Bury. He did very well and Harry scored a goal to equalise Bury's opener scored by a 17 year old Colin Bell making his debut. Matt came to City from the long defunct Third Lanark along with Alex Harley who only lasted one season (which ended in relegation) before moving to Birmingham along with his obscenely short shorts. RIP Matt.

Just a little after my time (my first match was in 1969) but remember people speaking well of him.

RIP.

Dear old Matt, sad to see the players of my childhood go. Loved watching him & Alex Harley when we were frankly very poor, they were a brief beacon of hope. RIP

Great memory stirrer .... I was at the game and had forgotten it was Matt Gray that went in goal ..... Harry Dowd played up front with his arm in a sling

Alex Harley scored a fantastic goal at the swamp to seal a 2-3 win over the rags

Was the Matt Gray goal v Scunthorpe in the 8-2 thriller? He got a hat trick that day as did a Jimmy Murray and two from Derek Kevan - but can't remember the details any more

Cheers

Remember him from my youth when I used to sit in the Platt lane stand. I also recall Alex Harley from around the same time and Derek Kevan, wish I could put myself on rewind and start all over again . RIP Matt.
