Hi all,

i'm not a big follower of what happens in training but i like reading about the training reports etc, so I wondered if some more clued up Blues could chip in.

Do we know if Pep's training regime is far more intensive fitness wise than other recent managers? (i'm guessing it is due to on-pitch workrate)

Do any Pep scholars know how Pep's squads fair with injury come the New Year as a result of this?

Has he brought his own medical staff?

I wonder how all his methods etc will fit in with no christmas break, this must be a major consideration for him.

Can be said that he had a poor injury record with Bayern, but it was mainly to do with other teams kicking his players around because they just can't cope with Pep's tactics, as opposed to training injuries.

He had a fantastic injury record at Barca with more games and a shorter Christmas break and an awful one at Bayern with a lighter schedule and longer break, so make of that what you will. There were rumours of rows with the Bayern team over their use of an 'unconventional' doctor iirc.

Imo it comes down to the medical team more than training records, Mancini would have had the most physically intense training sessions of any modern City manager and we had a fantastic injury record under him until he changed the doctor over a row.

Guardiola won't be as intense as Mancini was physically in training, he'll be doing more work with the ball as opposed to doing hill sprints with weight jackets.

how many training ground injuries dos we have during pellegrini's tenure and you can't really envisage his training being that intense?

Wonder whatever happened to that "hill" they had at Carrington ?

How many injuries have we had since his arrival that have occurred during training? I know Silva has picked up a slight thigh strain but has there been any others?

Imo, you only have to look at the way City are playing & the workrate of our centre mids, to know it can't be sustained, especially with people kicking them all the time.

So either Pep rests & rotates, or he does a Manuel & they're all fucked by Christmas.

Imo, he will rest & rotate, but because of the start, imo he should be doing it now & we are entering into the danger area where Pellegrini fucked up last season, particularly KDB.

Delph and Sagna seemingly. Sagna picked up a knock though so could have been during a game.

And Delph just seems to be broken full stop. Did we keep the receipt? I'm guessing we'd struggle with a refund on that front though..haha!

He's had his hands tied so far though really, Yaya isn't in good enough shape to play in that midfield, Delph injured, Nando injured, Gundogan wasn't available. Hopefully we can build a lead by halftime tomorrow and get Garcia+1 on for KDB and Gundogan early, if not then they all probably need to be rested for the league cup including Dinho.

My understanding is Pep is well into the modern scientific approach i.e. using lots of data and going of the evidence regarding how much rest v’s intensive training should be used. A sports science approach would suggest that 2 days are needed to recover post game, 1 day of full recovery and maybe 1 of very light training, also only light training the day before a game. I would assume that would mean he would use lots more rest than an old school coach but also to use very intensive sessions when they have the time between games – as opposed to consistent medium and high impact training sessions. Mancini liked training to be tough and as a result the team was tough but then some players like Richards fell apart under that approach. Kompany’s treatment now would suggest it is a modern and data driven approach which is maybe easier on the players.

We could always ask Ranieri how he managed to keep his players at the same tempo throughout the season with very few injuries!

They had no European football and went out of the cups early. I think we played a third more games than them. That had to help.

Beetroot shoots mate, Beetroot shoots. :)

If we only had 40 games to play like Leicester last year it wouldn't be a worry to be honest, but in reality we've got 38 in the league, a minimum of 10 in Europe (2 in the play off, 6 in the group and we're definitely not finishing bottom so minimum 1 knock out tie) and you'd expect at least a minimum of 5 in the cups. That's 53+ games after an international summer with another 5 or 6 international fixtures for Kev and Dave so they will need plenty of rotation. Hopefully we'll be OK, we've started with 4 high quality players for 3 spots with 2 back ups and if Garcia can come in and perform in cup games and off the bench in league games that would be a huge bonus.

We could hit 60 games this season! What did Leicester do last year 42?

Chavs and Dippers will have a big advantage this year with being out of Europe.
