Turnstiles Broke! Massives Queues Outside The Ground

Its not, when we got to the ground at 2:20, they appeared to be searching everyone, causing huge queues everywhere.

To be honest, I got there about 2.25pm and wasn't searched in any way (neither were those around me). Queues were still huge regardless though.

That's a complete straw man argument.

It's genuinely not - I spoke at length over many months with the guy who (has recently left us) spent hours trying to find ways to make the business case for the north stand upper tier stack up. I am afraid the glass tunnel is one of the ways he has managed to justify it.

Honestly, the 2 must be mutually exclusive. Create 500 corporate spaces, or 5000+ 'normal' spaces? Surely 5000 ticket at £30 makes more than 500 at £100? (Clearly I'm guessing at the figures.)

No they are very much linked.

I'm extremely sceptical about that.

I will happily pm you his name and some of the conversations we had. Do you not accept that 93.20 and joes helped justify the south a stand spend? And that the club would be reluctant to commit 60 million on a stand that will house largely 300 season tickets without maximising revenues elsewhere? Very surprised you would not find that perfectly plausible.

Aye.

Perhaps @worsleyweb can divulge further, rather than us take his blinkered view as gospel.

Your post doesn't make sense with all due respect. I have tried at length to explained my blinkered view. I would also point out to Ric in response to his very sceptical view that I was the very first person on this forum to mention the glass wall and was dismissed as an April fool joke.

It seems they stopped at some point because of the queues, but I don't know when it was, at some entrances they were even using scanners, they just patted us down (not very effectively I might add), and didn't seem to have hand scanners at M1/M2.

It begs a further question of "supporter services" though, why the difference in security at different entrances, if it requires higher security why is it not equal ?

I'm not trying to be difficult here, the issues today clearly need questions being asked, because it wasn't satisfactory.

I certainly don't think that the North Stand expansion simply couldn't happen without the glass tunnel, put it that way.

Indeed. If it was a security issue, then surely all entrances should be treated equally.

Quick question. Can you get into the stadium by any entrance? E.g. My card says use B or K but could I get in at say M or P?

I certainly don't think that the North Stand expansion simply couldn't happen without the glass tunnel, put it that way.

But you could perhaps see why someone completing a business case would include it as a way to increase income elsewhere in the stadium to justify this huge spend? It is exactly what happened for the south stand with joes and 93.20 and is a direct consequence of the stadium future proofing plans. I can assure you that what I have posted above is exactky what has happened.

I then said however I can understand why the club are doing it as they are about to commit 60 million plus on a complex build that laing lost money on last time and will want to recoup this time around so yes it will cause distress. It will also mean having to move the souvenir shop. The club know that there is a limit to how much corporate revenue they can generate and these prime seats in the lower tier are an obvious target to improve revenue. They won't get corporates in the new 3rd tier as people won't pay big money to sit up there.

They clearly feel that in the longer term this is for the greater good of the club
.

Here's a question for everyone to try and see where I am coming from. If the glass tunnel not happening meant the north stand didn't happen would you be happy?
Appreciate your reply.

I think the difference between our views is that I think the club should look after it's fans and you think they should bring in corporate at the expense of existing fans (call it collateral damage) so they can build more seats for fans which a lot of existing fans will not take up because we're being treated like shit.

I'm fucking off when I lose my seat. Others have done so previously so it won't be a shock to the club.

I also think they should stop giving it the "we support our supporters" big one when they obviously don't.

I'm not arsed about North Stand expansion, the glass tunnel doesn't affect me personally but there's an example on here of a family split by that tunnel. I'm not going to chop up my season card because of that but it makes me more aware my time is coming. (hence the over dramatic quote referring to Martin Niemoller earlier). I'd also add if there's one example on here there'll be a lot more in the real non bluemoon world.

North Stand season ticket holders going back from Maine Road got kicked out a few years ago to make room for the family stand. That didn't affect me either, (and was the main reason for mentioning Niemoller) but again that doesn't make it right. A fair few affected "customers" aired their views on here at the time and were pretty much ignored or ridiculed by happy clappers. That seems to have set a precedent.

The football offering is the best ever. The non football offering is getting worse.

Even if that were the case, why not do the tunnel after the expansion? Or at least at the same time.

And it shouldn't change because the queues are getting too big, which appear to have happened today, they should instead delay kick off. It was obvious to me at 2:30 that not everyone would be in by 3:00, in fact around me (SS3) it was no more than about 20-30% at kick off, with nobody actually coming in, this was down to a subsequent failure at the entrance, which reading above then seems to have caused its own safety issue, by opening the big gates, and that's stupid on a number of levels.

Don't think so, the email I got about Y saud it had been blocked from my card using it, so would expect they are coded to cards.

On the glass tunnel bit, if they are doing it, so be it, but they should have planned better than arsing about in the season, surely they have been looking at this for a while so should have looked into installing extra turnstyles to cope with both this and the ridiculous airport style security they have adopted.
