Its Guinness time any day of the week.
Anyone seen either of these two comedians live ?? Big fan of Hennings and we`ve got tickets to see him at the Crewe Lyceum on 11th November and before that Ross Noble, again in Crewe on 29th October.
Thoughts please whether they be good or bad.
Oakie

Haven't seen either but been to 2 very different comedic gigs (both at the Apollo) - Jason Manford and Lee Mack.

Jason Manford (my favourite comedian at the time, probably due to that local support thing more than anything), think I managed one chuckle; I was very bored throughout as he reeled off all the same jokes he had on TV. In contrast, Lee Mack (that I'd also watched a lot on TV) had everybody in absolute stitches throughout and my ribs hurt afterwards.

Just to share my experience of comedy - very hit and miss depending on how the comedian balances TV vs. Live.

We always watch Would I Lie To You and Lee Mack is superb and one person we would go to watch. We found Henning very funny on last weeks edition of Have I Got News For You,but we`d bought the tickets well in advance of his tv appearance.
Another very funny guy we saw was Gary Delaney who married Sarah Milligan.

I don't tend to watch much TV comedy anymore. Lee Mack seems a very intelligent bloke though how he keeps it fresh for TV appearances, live shows and his own TV show. Don't think I've ever heard him repeat the same joke.

Don't know how Comedians bring themselves to deliver the same jokes night after night - imagine thinking up a good joke and telling a mate nearby, then repeating it to everyone else you know - you'd feel a bit of a tit when it's lost its impact to yourself in that first moment.

you don't really know what you will get with Noble, seems pretty much unscripted streams of consciousness rather than any pre-rehearsed routine

That said my experience has been that he's either really funny and a good night out, to 'stop making me laugh my ribs are fucking killing me' levels of chortality

Saw Noble this year. He's mental, very funny, very audience led and rambling. A very funny man.

Also saw Henning. Very funny as well, completely different though. Very intelligent.

Just bought tickets to see Greg Davies next year. He's the funniest comedian I've seen in the last 5 years.

I would like to go and see Henning Wehn tbh he is pretty damn good. Sorry not seen either live Oakie but jealous you are getting to see him grrr :-D

ive been dragged along to a few popular TV comedians standups and every one of them has disappointed me. The worst for me by far was Jason Manford, i didnt laugh once and was nearly sleeping by the end. Comedy is subjective i know, there are plenty of comedians i like that some people will hate, but i thought he would get at least a smile out of me.

It seems to me that the more they are on TV the least funny they are, that blonde cockney guy with the massive teeth has to be the worst of the moment. Oh and Sarah Millican, awful.
I know plenty of hilarious people who arent comedians, but british comedians just dont make me laugh. I was at the Comedy Cellar in New York at the weekend and the comedians over there just piss over ours

Saw Ross Noble live quite a few times many years ago. Always thought he was very good but despite much of it being improvised so technically every show being different, I ended up getting a bit tired of his sense of humour. Nothing terrible but just couldn't be arsed going to see him again. Never seen Henning Wehn live but I don't really get him when I see him on TV. Seems mildly amusing at best.

The best I've seen this year:

Russell Kane
Zoe Lyons
Greg Delaney
Joe Lycett
Katherine Ryan
Jason Byrne
Sarah Pascoe

Lee Mack is the funniest I have ever seen live. Absolutely brilliant at ab libs and feeding off audience banter. Like Henning when a lot. Would pay to see him live.

Saw Sean Lock a few weeks ago and was disappointed. Seemed not that bothered with it all.

Alan Davies was also a let down.

I fell asleep during Sean Lock. I've generally found that there's been very little correlation between how much I like a comedian on telly compared to their live show.

I was like that doing a best man speech. I'd rehearsed it that much on the last minute I thought it was shit but it went okay!

Lee Mack is very funny, probably the only person I go and see live.

Henning was on "Would i lie to You" this week if you missed it @oakiecokie He is a funny guy.

Saw Ross Noble a couple of years ago, very funny. As said before all ad libbed and lead by the audience.

For me Lee Mack and Greg Davies both make me laugh on tv and on stage. Both very clever and funny men.

I havent seen Lee Mack live, enjoyed Greg Davies. But many of the ones that I've liked most live, such as Zoe Lyons & Katherine Ryan, I havent thought that much of when I've seen them on the telly. Only went to see them because my wife dragged me there. I suppose some comedians are better suited to the telly than others.
