City v Saints post match

Bravo. 7 ( no chance with the goal , one great save)
Stones 6 ( terrible mistake for the goal , didn't let it get to him though , got better)
Kompany 6 ( steady first up performance after a long time out )
Kolarov 4 ( don't like him , never have , a bit of a 'show pony' imo , gets caught out of position too often and then doesn't work hard enough to recover)
Fernandinho 6 (not much wrong , steady without being at his best)
De Bruyne 5 ( tried hard to no effect for 45 minutes)
Silva 6 ( not his best game , kept looking for the ball though , didn't hide)
Gundogan 6 ( still settling in , just ok , will get a lot better)
Sterling 7 ( 6 for the first half , 8 for the second half)
Aguero 5 ( not his day today , needs to look up a bit more often, Sterling was open at one time for a short pull back and would have scored)
Sane 7 ( tried hard , final product needs work , but think he will only get better, at 19 years old time is on his side)
Ineanacho 7.5 ( took his goal really well and got into some great positions)

Sterling and Iheanacho dragged us to a point on their own really with their desire in the 2nd half. Gundogan is immensely disappointing both on the ball and in the press. Aguero is still a bit too 'head down and run' for my liking. He needs to let the ball do more of the work and release it earlier. Sané was better but still has to improve a lot. Stones and Kolarov have both turned to shit after great starts to the season. Much work to be done!

The performance was typical of what most teams produce following a difficult european game.

The positives:
  • Sterling - while he has played for us, he has not displayed as much confidence as he did today. He tried to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Very encouraging
  • Kompany - great to see him play most of the game and leave without an injury
  • Bravo - considering what happened in midweek, he was excellent today. That 60 yd pass to Silva in the second half was outstanding
  • Kelechi - excellent goal and his enthusiasm gave us a lift

Well, all going a bit tits up at the moment. It would be nice to go ahead in a match again...
Surprised that Stones started after his mauling on Wednesday, gave away the ball needlessly once or twice before his terrible pass but give the lad some credit, he came back into the match after.
Our supposed "big" players offered little again. No joke, when was the last time Silva turned a big match round for us...scored or made an assist in a really really tight game...is anybody's memory good enough to remember that far back? The only think magical about Merlin these days is his ability to effin vanish when we really need him....offered absolutely zip all again today, wouldn't be surprised to see him given a rest.
Our midfield just looks lightweight these days, where's the dynamism?
Seeing Navas coming on was like rubbing salt into a wound, depressing.

nothing wrong with the team selection but the players need some man management over the next few days/weeks........this is where Pep needs to show another side to him and get them through this....to a man they were poor today....really sloppy passing which is not something you usually associate with our team ....misplaced passes all over the place....lots of players holding onto the ball for too long and not moving the ball quickly

we didnt even press at all in the first half.....not a single player out of the midfielders and forwards pressed the saints back line...that had to be instructions

better second half and good to see Kompany come back and play pretty well

you do realize thats a three team league? Also both teams have a squad much much better than anyone in the world.

Still boo their players, even after wins...Pep has played for two of them, our tentative booing after a well underpar performance will be a walk in the park in comparison

For Kompany. To play right back?
My point was that Nolito is more of a goal threat than Navas. From what I could pick up on the TV, Dinho stepped in for Kompany and Raheem moved into the middle. Anyway, I'm not here to argue with anyone over it. Just extremely disappointed with the result, and the current run. I'm sure we will come good though.

We might be at the top of the table on goal difference. But it's not like we've had the hardest fixture list. Let's see where we are after we have faced the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

This is the worry. Need to shake the flat track bully syndrome.

Not clinical and too many mistakes.

Fern has been good this game. Stones needs to be dropped. he makes too many mistakes giving the ball away to the opposition. Hopefully komps can stay healthy and partner ota or kola.

Frustrating as fuck horrible horrible game.

Our defence is utterly pathetic 3 goals at Celtic, 2 Spurs, 4 Barcelona and again today all goals our fault.

But still top of the league.

Which I think has to be the point. We are still top despite the recent set backs. Pep has come and is trying to build something. Its not gonna happen overnight. We're just a quarter of the way through his first league season with us. Players have gone - more will do so. Players have come in and more will do so. We will and are progressing so give it time.

And we didn't spunk over £100m on Pogbad !!
