Something to cheer you all up, Buck house facelift

Would be a nice gesture wouldn't it if Liz agreed to match the £46M raised for children in need each year for the next eight years in lieu of the taxpayer funding the renovation of Buckingham Palace.
It needn't really cost her anything if she could get her trustees to agree to flog one or two of her paintings.
Just sayin' like.

Considering the amount she brings into charities dwarfs the children in need figure, in fact Charles brings in more than double that of children in need annually, why do you think they need to do more?

Should we abolish them, like some people want, who is going to pick up the slack? I cant see a president bringing anywhere near the gravitas of a royal endorsement of a charity.

I am nowhere near being a royalist but I would fear for the country were the monarchy to be abolished and we end up with tone of hose fuckin' weasels, skunks and rattlesnakes currently and recently treading the corridors of power at Westminster. President Blair, anyone. How about President Gideon? Or even President Cameron. Jeeeeeeesuuuus save us!

Charlie next Head of State , then the unpopular Wills.
Still feel the same way then?
Anyway they can still carry out that head of state function by giving them an office somewhere.
No need for the all the palaces, hangers on etc.

Agree totally mate, we dont need more elections and politicians, Liz has done a pretty good job as head of state all things considered and more than pays for herself. I dont mind Charlie either or his kids, I read that when George was born it brought in around £80m to the economy (fuck knows how they worked that out) but thats not bad from the little fella, he'll shit all over Wogan when he's older. Completely ambivalent towards the rest of the hangers on like the Queen's cousins or what have you though.

President Blair...!!!!! Even worse, Cherie Blair as First Lady, because you just know we'd copy the Yanks on that one.

Jesus fucking Christ, you've made me a royalist.

Criticized as being 'work shy'.

Nope, that was his wife after she cancelled a couple of engagements - shocking from a new mother, he has an approval rating that a politician would chop off fingers for. A bit of googling tells me that in 2012 90% of people were satisfied with him, this is now 79%, with only 6% unsatisfied, 15% undecided, like I said a politician would die for those figures. He's very popular.

I am coming across that I am a royalist, I'm not really, just that the main ones all more than pay for themselves.

No need for the hangers on, Len, but I'd keep the palaces. They're wot Johnny Foreigner wants to photograph, particularly with the Royal Standard flying atop. Can't think why anyone would want to come and photograph Buck House if Tone and Cherie were residents. Perish the thought. Atomise it and send it back to Brussels! and I've just thought of another one - The Kinnocks!! Gawd Almighty. And the Yanquis think they've been stitched up with The Donald! They don't know what they've got and what they're missing!

I can't believe he says William in unpopular. He's a very popular young chap.

Why don't they sell some of these https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_royal_residences to pay for it, the greedy tw@s. Still they have everyone lapping out of their hand - if it was just a celebrity/political family that owned all them and were funnelling funds from the taxpayer for property everyone would be on their back. I realise Buckingham Palace is important and needs maintenance, I'm just saying they are taking the piss if we're paying to maintain their obscene luxuries.

And she has the nerve to lecture the population at Christmas to "live within our means." Bellend.
I like her.

So I can understand, where does your loyalty to her come from exactly?

Duty? Ideals?

I ask because, let's say we didn't have a monarchy and it was Nigel Farage with his extended family possessing all the same estate as the Royal family does now, and in whatever legal way, taxpayers money was going to him in large sums to maintain that extremely wealthy estate. Would you be pissed off about that?
I don't know Maybe it could be because he's British and she's head of state,if he was American it would be Donald Trump, Russian Putin, North Korean Kim Wrong-un. Think personally I'll stick with what I've got thanks.

If I was loyal to her I'd still be a resident and paying for the facelift on the Palace through taxes.

As a simple tax exile, I said I like her.

Giving three examples of systems we don't have makes your reasoning redundant.
Only the UK in the top 10 economies have a King or Queen, seems business is good without them.
How much did we raise in the end for Lizard in Need? I see now why Hinckley Point is being built, to keep the reptile house warm.
