Burnley - Post Match Thread

They are all tested and asked about their fitness.

Dinho just has a huge engine in him.
Kompany was asked about his, and look where that's got him, players will always say they're fit, they'll play.

I know Fernandhino has a huge engine, but we'll also need it in Feb/Mar/Apr too.

Tough decisions need to be made, and yes he was great today, my man of the match (again), but when his form or effort dips we'll miss him more than anyone else, yet Silva, Gundogan, de Bruyne, Stones plenty of rest in comparison.

Because they are weak by comparison. Stones probably more trying to keep his mind sharp as he is a young player at a new team.

People complaining about the defence today? We were rock solid at the back. This was always going to be a physical contest with long balls the only form of forward movement from Burnley. Pep got it right and our back line rose to the challenge.

Absolutely this. Some of the comments pre game were a fucking disgrace from people that should really know an awful lot better.

Plenty of the usual suspects flapping on there too.

Funny, haven't seen them post in here yet.

Stats show we dominated but it wasn't the best of performances, but at the end of the day it's 3 points and we move on,as for the ref well it's getting a habit it could be seen as sour grapes when we lose, but it's the same when we win poor or incompetent or cheating take your pick..

Well obviously not as some were benched or rested completely.

I thought Kolarov played very well given the pressure of the long ball they put on us, Fernando too, who's match stats were pretty impressive, but he also looked good on the eye too, doing his job well.

Wasnt impressed with Kolarov or Otamendi but very much so with Fernando, technically as well as physically, later in the game.

Someone earlier mentioned set pieces & on the quiet I think our setup has been fantastic just not the individual play within it. It's different to anything we have seen (so therefore no doubt bad in Danny Mills Hoddle world) but I think it may rewrite the book.

6 points from two tricky away games, Champs League qualification from group stage and currently top of the league - all without really playing well.

We've had worse weeks!

A win is a win as i said previous...games like those can help win titles and 3 its when not playing anywhere near our best is always a good thing

Defensively we were all over the place at times. Ottomendi has to be told to stop diving in and making rash challenges. It could easily have been a penalty to them int he first half (I'm not sure the offside was spotted so if it wasn't he really got away with one and on a number of occasions he dived into getting balls that were no way obtainable and as a result was bypassed. Kolarov and his distribution was poor at times as well...at least 4 times he gave away possession on or around the half way line which is really dangerous. You could go as far as to say that the whole back 4 that played today could/should be replaced by next season.

First 20 mins or so they pressed like mad and caused us problems. Im not sure f it was us changing something, their substitutions or just them running out of steam that caused the change but after that it was just hoof ball vs us trying to play football. For some brief periods we played some nice stuff but without silva/KDB there was just not a lot coming off.

Nolito - played well but needs to calm down and Pep was wise to take him off......needless booking for decent
Sane....again just looks out of his depth
Sterling...poor today at times but worked hard
Yaya grew in influence but a passenger at times as well
Ferna - absolutely irreplaceable at present
Kun - will he ever score two scruffier goals - goateer esque but they all sound and he was in the right place at the right time
Fernando - shake in the first half but grew into the game as well
Bravo - could do nothing about the goal and a couple of smart saves from a header and the over head kick at the end......calm with the ball at his feet

Burnley fans -disgrace cheering sterling getting injured and the chants aimed at him...on that pure basis alone I hope they get continually relegated with their pub brand of football and 6 fingered fans.

Neither of us have any idea who was asked or not, or what the fitness people are saying. My point is that some get rested regularly, whilst others run the risk of being run into the ground if they don't get some rest.

We'll badly miss Fernandhino when he runs out of steam, as I'm sure you'll agree, all I'm saying is from the outside looking in, it looks a risk.

Its been a great week for results for sure, a bigger thing is twice we've come from behind to get good results, which shows the spirit is very good.

Absolutely this. Fuck the result, fuck the performance, I was and still am livid at Sterling's treatment. Absolute sets of ****s. The sooner clubs' fans worry about their own shit brand of football and less about what Raheem earns/posts on social media/eats/does the better.

I just wish he would royally stick it up them with a run of sensational performances but he looks lost a lot of the time and the less said about when he has the ball in the box the better.

Finding someone full stop won't be easy. Not sure there is one out there. I'd gamble on Van Dijk.

If it doesn't work, we still have the current ones. And Pep is not a manager who starts new signings regularly just because they are there, he makes them earn it.

Van Dijk is first name that springs to mind. I have not seen much of him but have been impressed by what I have seen and his reputation seems to be growing. He meets the size criteria.

Exactly. But I reckon Pep knows which is why I'm not questioning him on those decisions.

He's got a good week now to put his feet up. But I would imagine we need another in his likeness in the nit too distant future. Wish he was 23.

I have never understood this jump on the bandwagon mentally of booing him, I bet half the inbred fuckwitts done even know why they're doing it

Thought we were poor today but 3 points is all that matters. I thought the starting XI was some kind of joke and I know some have said that KDB & Silva shouldn't play together but what was clear today, was that at least one of them must play. Resting both was a disaster. I am becoming more and more concerned with the performances of our wide men, Nolito is offering very little and has the IQ of a fridge freezer. Sterling is so indecisive, he needs to start taking responsibility. I've slated Fernando plenty on here however I thought today was one of his better performances in a city shirt. I just hope that now we have finished with Europe we will start to perform better because we can win this league by 10 points if we sort ourselves out.

Epic disaster today.

Trevor Francis: “It was offside, but Burnley should have had a penalty”

Ian Wright” I didn’t notice the offside at the time, but it was definitely a penalty”

Howard Webb: “ Boyd is coming back from an offside position, but the linesman is struggling with the sun. However, it’s definitely a penalty”
