Gundogan - Back training 26th June '17

Not a horror tackle, in a leg breaking sense.

Just an attempt to hurt an opponent by taking his standing leg, when the ball is on the other side. Not a hope in hell of ever even getting within a foot of the ball & no intention of doing so.

edit, actually I'm starting to go with horror tackle.

The force lifts Gundogan's leg off the ground.

Or alternatively they're both running for the ball, Gundogan, coming in at a slight angle and arriving fractionally the sooner, gets his body halfway across the Watford player, whose momentum (he has no chance of stopping, and indeed takes barely half a stride before the impact) takes him into Gundogan high up on the latter's thigh. Gundogan gets knocked over understandably, but that's pretty much it. No crafty knee and no obvious intent to injure. A foul for sure, but not much more than that. The very best you could argue is that the Watford player might have checked his stride about one pace earlier to avoid the bump. Again, the notion that it was a horror tackle though is utterly risible

Well usually when that happens, the player doesn't follow through full tilt kicking the other players leg from underneath him, which is what seems to have twisted Gundogan's other knee.

Perhaps he couldn't stop & his leg was forced to go forward. But I bet he'd stop on a sixpence if he had the ball. So, no imo. It's a deliberate foul, with more severe consequences than the nasty knee in the side which was intended.

i don't even see a free kick in that short clip, i didn't think it at the time it happened.unfortunately,Gundogan has come out of it injured.

Shame. With his injury record, I was expecting something like this to happen. Started to find his feet as well although I do think we played our best football (minus the barca game) without him in the side.

Actually can't believe how light we have left ourselves in midfield. We were light last season. So now we have Toure and Fernando as our central options for the weekend against Arsenal. Buzzing.

You forgot Delph and Zaba!!

Poor bloke, he was starting to make an impact again as well! Typical, hope he recovers well. Ligament damage is always hard to diagnose correctly that early on, I tore mine in my knee about 10 years ago playing football, played on until I felt it getting quite sore, walked up the stairs, had a shower and went to bed, morning after it had swollen the size of a football and I literaĺy cried just trying to roll out of bed!
ohhh - brings back memories of mine - hurt like a b@ßt*%d next day - got out of bed and literally couldn't move at all, the pain was so bad

I haven't been blown away by him so far but agree that we are now light at least until Fernadinho comes back anyway. Its incredible after the money we have spent in the last couple of years that we are about 6/7 players short of the quality needed still. Exceptionally poor planning ahead.

The continued fouling we suffer is becoming unacceptable.
Silva, Gundogan, Sterling, De Bruyne, Aguero all repeatedly brought down with sly little tackles, strategic knees, standing on feet, heels, joints.
It was a typical tackle that City players face last night, no chance of the opposition to win the ball, but goes in regardless through the leg that is shielding the ball.

Go back and watch the match.

They were doing sneaky, snide knees into our players thighs all the time.

It's one of the worst things in the premier league - shit players/teams who rely on 70's style of football of "getting stuck in."
Sadly, I have to agree with this comment - and, although I've not heard him mention it, so does Pep.

Only one angle shown here, but the idea that we're talking about some horror tackle is truly fucking risible. Even the notion that the Watford player deliberately kneed him is questionable at best

I don't see any contact, by their player, on his right knee - may be a twist. (but deffo deliberate foul whether or not).

It looked to me like his weight was being planted on his right leg when the contact happened and he then went to his right with his foot planted and ended up twisting the knee to the right, hopefully it's just medial ligaments but doubt we'll be that lucky. Didn't think it was that bad at the time and happened just in front of us.
Actually feel it may be a blessing as it'll mean KDB and Silva more central with hopefully Sane getting a run of games now. Feel that the 3 of them struggle together as they all want to be in the same areas, harsh for the lad i know but i'd prefer it if Pep rotated between the 3 of them.

Feel sorry for the lad.

Was it just me that thought this guy never got himself fully fit after his last layoff?

He looked ridiculously slow and overweight, almost as if he was running through treacle. I never really saw much of him at his Dortmund peak - was it just normal for him?

I'm very sad for him - he has rotten luck. I've enjoyed watching him play but.....

I like a midfield four of Silva, Kev, Nolito and Sterling but none of them protect the defence. We have the Ferns for that. Assuming Sergio/Nacho up front, we can only use Gundogan if we go to a back three that we simply don't have the players for. With Jesus arriving in January, it would be even harder to accommodate Ilkay. At least with him out, we can revert to a back four.

I don't think he deliberately took him out but with how we're refereed not getting a free kick means fuck all.
Gundogan wanted to win the ball and did so, i don't think it was even an accident, Gundogan was just unlucky.
there were plenty more deliberate challenges, like you say, go unpunished and could easily end with a player injured.
pardew teams are worst offenders against us, but this season, sunderland, west ham and a few others have kicked us off the park.
