Liverpool (a) Pre-Match Thread

I've got a feeling Agero won't start. He always takes a few games to properly get going after being out for a few weeks and I think Guardiola quite likes the no-striker formation. Regardless of the result in Barca, I think it worked pretty well

I think the no striker works best when we have 2 or 3 players staying in fairly advanced positions for most of the game, interchanging and causing confusion among the opposition defenders. Not so much a "false 9" as three false 9s. I dont really see us getting that many players forward enough on a regular basis for it to work in this game. This seems to me to be the classic counter attacking, single striker game. Much like the derby.

Only mean this light-heartedly, but that made me smile as I am catching up on this thread.

1. No offence meant - but as you are stating it is clearly a Shithead statement there is a logical implication that it must have been made by a Shithead - no?

2. In a post to explain that no personal slight was intended your post could be read to grouping the fella in with posters that are that shallow they would do CITY down just so they can appear clever - then suggest that proper Blues would not do that - with that implication being...........

Sad loss to the diplomatic corps...

Only messing - just made me laugh

As regards 1. I genuinely wasn't intending any slight as I've seen hundreds of The Light was Yellow Sir's posts and never previously identified him as an idiot or a shithead or anything of that nature that I can recall. That doesn't preclude him from the odd shithead comment though in the same way it doesn't preclude me, and that particular suggestion that anyone criticising City secretly wants us to lose so they can be proven right, is one that has gotten on my tits on BM over a prolonged period.

As regards 2. you've got it the wrong way round. It was me that originally suggested I thought Liverpool would turn us over on Saturday, not TLWYS.

I have actually got one or two acquaintances through work, who are employed by the Foreign Office. They'll be entertained by the notion that someone thinks I've missed my vocation! ;-)

No matter the team we put out its going to be very tough and we'd need to absolutely be on our A game if we're going to win this one.

I'm going for a 4-2-4-0 lineup with the following players; priority for me would be to keep possession and get a grip of the game inspite of their insane pressing which is a given.

To get this done, everyone would need to fight and our attitude towards 50/50 balls would need to be top notch.

All that is off the ball; on the ball, Sane and Sterling would be key. Please no playing KDB or Silva on the wings as we only get a fraction of their true ability when they are so deployed. If we're going to play without a center forward in a bid to overload the center, then everyone will have to have their shooting boots in good condition.

This is what I'd do:

----------------Bravo-------------
Sagna-Otamendi-Kolarov-Clichy
---Yaya Toure----Fernandinho
Sterling--De Bruyne--Silva-Sane

A worrying game this. Im hopeful pep wont just send them out to be rabbits in the headlights as many suspect will happen, you would imagine he knows we will lose if we sit back and let them play on our half. Just like the first derby, fuckin go at them and see what they can do to stop US. We have to be level after 20 mins, the longer it goes level the better for us, they dont have a sane or nolito to bring on.

If it was four years ago, I would say Pep was a dream opponent. But he evolved during his years in Bayern. He got the most out of both Lahm and Müller, and also managed to play more direct - when needed.

In City, however, I have not seen the same variety. I feel that he does not fully trust his back four, nor his defensive midfielders. City seem to lack the mobility and technique to play possession from the back 100%.

The sad part for Liverpool is that their press game with Origi and Sturridge up front, is nothing special. It has always been Firminos hard work that sets the tone. And with firmino playing on the wing, Liverpool lose much of their intensity.

Pretty even match up. I think it will be high tempo, back and forth, and individual performances will make the difference. The edge for Liverpool is that as long as they concede early, the home turf will probably be a huge factor.

Either Liverpool scores first and wins, or City score first and it's a tie.

That is all good mate - as I said - just made me smile

Personal f/c - 1 - 3

Should be this:
--------------------------------------bravo-----------------------------------------
sagna-----------otamendi------------------------kolarov----------------clichy
--------------------------------------fernan---------------------------------------
------------------debruyne--------------------------toure-----------------------
---------sane-----------------------agueroo------------------------nolito-------

will be this:

--------------------------------------bravo-----------------------------------------
sagna-----------otamendi------------------------kolarov----------------clichy
--------------------------------------fernan---------------------------------------
--------------------silva------------------------------toure-----------------------
---------sterling--------------------agueroo-------------------debruyne-------

Mistakes:

1) debruyne should always play in central midflied, that's the main rule but pep has forgotten about it and only remembers when looses games
2) liverpools fans will be boooing sterling all the time he receives ball, i think sane will be better solution.

In this case maybe silva/debruyne will give more possession to the team and booing will be better for sterling to play with more passion and anger.
But in overall i don't like that pep is playing central midfielders as wingers. Yes there is more possession but less touches in opponents' box.

Nothing like setting yourself up for a fall :)

Those numbers don't surprise me. He may score straight away but it takes a few games/weeks for him to look himself, so to speak
Thats true, but a suspension, working ,I assume, on tactics, and fitness, is different to rushing back from injury.
