Liverpool - post match thread.

We are a work in progress, I know it does not feel like it at the moment but we are pep's biggest challenge in his managerial career. Bit by bit he will create a fantastic team. Although we are disappointed with the performance at Klanfield we need to keep positive. At least we only have a couple of days to wait to get that result out of our system.
I agree with you.

We weren't that bad today.

Well, you might be right and we "dominated" the game but if so, there's a huge issue there in that we still lost to a poor side, created absolutely zip all in 94 minutes....you don't think that's anything to worry about...doing nothing and losing to a team who "struggled" to create anything?

I never said there was nothing to worry about. I just don't get the negative hysteria

Pep hasn't been here 5 minutes and clearly many of our existing players are not fit for purpose. I guess I take the longer term view.

Looked like we went there hoping to come away with a point, like thats the best we could get. Bad passing again. Slow starts. Players looked hungover (mentally).

He's not arsed about learning our game, nor adapting his style for this league. He's prioritising the Chumps League with this team that cant defend and a goalkeeper that couldn't catch a cold.

Hugely unimpressed, to the point my passion for City is being drowned out with disappointment this season.

we spent almost the entire game trying to break them down. Liverpool got a good goal from their point of view and that was it. Zero attacking They played this game entirely differently to how they have played this season. Surely you can see that
they played differently because we kept possession, but regardless of having the possession, we did not attack them, just kept passing, passing and more passing without causing them any problems what so ever, was their back 4 stretched and put under pressure??, was it fuck, we were toothless in attack, surely you can see that??

Not surprise result, we lose at Anfield like always...

We deserved to lose today, didnt test Mignolet, conceded from very first chance. Klopp had a defensive gameplan, they put big pressure on KDB, Yaya, Silva and they all struggled even with their usual passing. Isolating Kun worked as well, he hardly touched the ball in dangerous areas.

These are the games we should be winning to bring back all those points lost at home vs Chelsea from 1-0 up or vs Everton, Soton, Boro..

Vs top six :

United away win
Spurs away loss
Chelsea home loss
Arsenal home win
Pool away loss

And it worked. They saw how toothless we are and didn't need to attack because we wouldn't have scored had we played for a month. No shots in the last 35 mins was pitiful.

I mean, last two times we played Liverpool in the league we lost by three goals, so this was an improvement...
I'm sure I will be. But we need to do something.

Anyone else think Pep must have something against Nolito? The guy's been one of our best this season.

He has been of the boil of late in fairness. Also he spends most of the game crying like a baby and getting pushed about. We have enough of that with Otamemdi

He is correct. Games like this are decided on small moments and once they were ahead it was incredibly difficult to break them down. We did OK, but this team will not win anything until we can commit going forward and know we are safe at the back.

Problems at both ends of the pitch.
Correct, Marv. Although I would add that I expected more of Pep in being able to adjust, we were simply awful today.

We need more than just Gabriel Jesus unfortunately. We need a big overhaul this summer. Sagna, Zabba, Clichy, Kolarov, Fernando, Delph, Kompany, Toure need to go.
If we could start this January by getting 1-2 in. That'd be great.

Says it all the only thing Bravo had to do was pick the ball out the back of the net. But that was one shite performance

Iheanacho, Nolito and Fernando all deserve far better.

Got to agree with you there. Was watching when he gave Nacho 2 minutes and Navas got a bit longer but touched the ball once. Pep's game management today was not good. Really thought we could get back into it in the second half but the slow play, and lack of subs, ensured we ended up with nothing.

Again, letting a cheap goal in puts us in a terrible position.

There's no goals in the team. Not on a regular basis anyway

The last season and a half, for me, has shown there's not enough goals in the team. If you think back to 2014, Aguero, Negredo, Devon and Toure all had 20 goals. Even Jovetic had around 10 (I think!).

Last season we had Aguero, Bony who was****, and Kelechi who was learning his trade. This year, we have Aguero, Kelechi playing sporadically and getting a few, and Nolito.

We do have problems at the back, but we used to start swiftly and get very early goals under both Mancini and PELLEGRINI. This took pressure off the defence, but isn't happening now.

I said to friends that if GJ is as good as everyone thinks he is, and if we're within 10 points, we may be in with a chance. Admittedly, I never thought we'd be as far back as we are!!

We need to sort the defence, and get some of the shackles off by getting the team together and talking about the issues they have. Whether it will sort stuff or not I don't know.

The defenders are putting extra pressure on our midfield and attacking players, most games.
It's not just their defending capabilities, it's their distribution. Players move into space and bang
it's banged straight to one of the opposition players. No wonder we are so open, at times.

Anyone want to discuss Kolarov?

The guy is an utter useless twat. I dont think he actually did anything right in the first half - I know for a fact that in the first 10 mins he took a shite free kick that hit middle of the wall, had 2 punts that went straight to a dipper player, shit touch from Yaya pass, and then beat in the air whilst standing like a lemon.

He's a cnut, and as long as Pep picks him I will have no confidence in the manager.

But heh, everything will be fine next season when we've thrown another £200m at it, without any academy lads anywhere near the horizon.

He will spend big to get some credibility, otherwise he will be off with his tail between his legs with his mate Txiki.
