Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Bluemoon might not be, but you think the atmosphere at home games helps the team?

Didn't say it did mate. At the risk of going off-topic the atmosphere at the ground is being purged by a number of factors, which are mostly down to the Club and its alienation of the hardcore of supporters who want to vocally support the team. The halcyon days of heaving stands and proper atmospheres have gone at most grounds nowadays, with all-seaters and the "Americanisation" of the "matchday experience".

There's a thread on here about "terrace characters". You don't see one titled "all-seater characters", because that lump of plastic you sit on (or not) and the stewarding, ensures any "characters" are forcibly ejected from the ground. It's self-perpetuating and club-sponsored.

It's the gentrification of a working class game is to blame, not the supporters.

But that's a discussion for another thread. Maybe someone should start one :)

If Messi came tomorrow, it wouldn't "fix" us though, would it. He's come here, show moments of brilliance, but overall just be underwhelming (like he has been in pretty much every world cup game).

It may or may not be financially viable, but either way I think it would be the wrong thing to do.
It would be financially viable and one hell of a statement and seeing one bit of messi magic in blue would live with you for the rest of your days

We'd be no better off as a team and would simply be where we are now only with an even bigger name failing to put us at the top of the world order.

What we need is a sustained period of building, i.e. exactly what Pep has been brought on board to do.

It may or may not be financially viable, but either way I think it would be the wrong thing to do to sign Messi.

Messi would score 30 goals a season and make a huge difference to a team that is still reliant on Aguero.

Jermain Defoe scores for fun...think about that.

You also maybe fail to legislate on the mental edge he would give us and how opponents approach us?

Messi has been below par this season and still scored three times against us.

TBH Messi is exactly what we need. He's a clinical forward who can play either as a 9 or a false 9.

In your opinion do you think he will come to us

As brilliant as Messi was in his prime, I don't want us to sign 30 year olds. Who is the best player in his position aged 24-27? Put the money towards him.

Forget Messi, forget everything. All I keep hearing is X isn't a 'Pep player', Y isnt' etc. If Guardiola cannot work with anything other than World Cup winners and Messi, then we are in big trouble. I believe he can work with other player, but needs to get cracking

I imagine he has been shocked by how bad some of our players are at the basics and probably hasn't encountered such issues since at Barca B

He needs to realign his principals with reality. He's not an idiot, so I am sure he can see the things we are seeing. I expect him to sort it, but whether he can do it in time for a Top 4 finish is anyone's guess

Getting Messi even at this stage of his career would be a giggle, can you imagine how p*ssed off other fans would be.
Getting Messi in his prime would have been amazing but even this version would still be a hell of a coup.

A lot of fans say the media are against us, the refs have it in for us, the f a, and e u f a,
Now we have our own fans turning against us.
Other fans read blue moon and are rightly saying we are shit fans, the team and club need us to get behind them starting on Saturday.

You must sit near me ;)

We are debating the merits of whether it's a good thing that Pep wants to stay for longer than three years.

Only at this club.
No debate to be had. Maybe there is something to be said for fans wanting instant success. If Conte wins the league with Chelsea, then fair one, however Pellegrini won it with us and look how that ended.

Patience is what's needed.

Who needs patience MESSI is coming

Whatever happens this season I think we should keep Pep, even if it meant no top 4. But I can't understand why we would offer him a new contract at the end of the season. Surely that should wait until he has had a positive impact? Or am I missing something. Let us imagine last summer that Pep wasn't coming to City, their would have been absolute uproar if Pellegrini had been offered a new contract?
