Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

It's getting a bit tiresome this ageist bullshit about "the 40-50 year old dinosaurs that infest our club" syndrome. "The demographic of our support is too old", "the moaning stereotypical old farts should be more grateful" blah blah fucking blah.

I've heard plenty of 20-30 something's moaning, plenty of teenagers moaning, mostly about the wi-fi interweb thingy - if that's the correct term?...not sure if it is...being 50 and soaked in piss..

You mention that you hear it more now than you used to when we were shit, so by inference you're a bloke of a certain age?

Football fans moan, it's in the DNA, not just the reserve of City fans. I live in Leicester for my sins and there's plenty of Foxes fans moaning down here let me tell yer. Despite what their club gave them last year.

'tis football mate, and certainly not down to the "ageing" Maine Road faithful who've done the hard yards..

Now, where did I put my spare colostomy bag?

I am 43. It isn't an ageism thing, you old fecker. :)

I used to love going for pre and after game drinks in the Clarence and the Gardners Arms. Yes, you would hear the moans (most of them justifiable) but it's now become a pastime among some. Probably the old Main Stand Moaners. ;)

The issues we have are not the fault of Pep. They were inevitable with our aging squad and pep is just doing the best he can with what he's got.

All we need to do is be patient, trust in pep and wait for this to be put right. Our team needs some reconstruction and I don't think there is a better manager in the world to do that work.

The best thing we, as supporters, can do is get behind our boys!

I think it's safe to say that if we didn't have Pep he wouldn't even give it a first though, let alone a second. Kind of underlines how important Pep is I guess.
Agree and some people on here can't see how important pep is to us he will make us the best club side in the world

I genuinely never anticipated some degree of disappointment towards the best manager in the world wanting to stay in shitty rainy Manchester for longer than three years?

It would sadly seem the full metamorphosis of many a City fan is now fully complete?

A self-entitlement which has leeched its way in from the days of "we'll buy your club, and burn it down", to being now totally blinded as to what it means to be a supporter of this club in the first instance?

The team isn't performing but players will always come and go.

Unfortunately, we seem stuck with a majority of fans who don't even seem to enjoy being a City fan these days, which bizarrely seem to deliver its own contentment?

It's seemingly the older fans, too? Not the younger ones, but the ones who have shown amazing loyalty during the shittiest of times, yet now feel like the club is their own little fiefdom/drinking club and just have to sit back and await its rewards?

It's a two-way street. Pep is backing his entire career and reputation on doing the business for us.

It's a while since I felt we were actually backing both the manager of the club and its team.

great post mate, its taken longer than it should but the changing of mancini's guard is finally upon us.

the king is dead, long live the king as they say

Just do like us really old fuckers ... just piss your trousers.

If Messi came tomorrow, it wouldn't "fix" us though, would it. He'd come here, show moments of brilliance, but overall just be underwhelming (like he has been in pretty much every world cup game). We'd be no better off as a team and would simply be where we are now only with an even bigger name failing to put us at the top of the world order.

What we need is a sustained period of building, i.e. exactly what Pep has been brought on board to do.

It may or may not be financially viable, but either way I think it would be the wrong thing to do to sign Messi.

i can't think of a reason not to sign messi, it works on very level for me, financially, for the fans, the team/squad/club,the oppositions fear factor

Thats unfair on the City fanbase as a whole, its no different than at any other PL club, booing Fellaini at Old Toilet, Claude going fucking apeshit on Arsenal TV about Wenger, Newcastle fans getting managers sacked every six months-its bollocks that our club is any different to any other big club. The atmosphere at City has hardly changed since we came to this stadium bar the odd exception for a big game.

The fans have hardly changed-its the game thats changed and the obscene amounts of money being slung about for average couldnt give a fuck players, you cant con the fans with half arsed effort and workrate and its been sadly lacking at City far too often in the past three or four seasons.

Maybe but I do think many fans are now too impatient for instant success - whereas we used to be more tolerant (rightly or wrongly). I also do not think that players generally don't put in the effort. Sometimes things just don't go according to plan & it gives the wrong impression. Perhaps I'm wearing my blue tinted specs too often!!!

An interesting piece and I will give my two penneth on it.

For the fan's who have done the hard yards, the old third division days and cock up and disappointment upon disappointment over those bleak years it probably goes a bit like this. We were taken over and suddenly became the richest club in the world. After years of winning nothing with the prospect of ever winning anything again almost zero, we now had a chance to compete on a level playing field. Our players and the standard of our football improved and we did actually win a few trophies, we were living the dream.....kind of. I will explain.

Everything appeared to be in place to dominate football in this country for the next ten to twenty years. Every pundit seemed to agree that we would and we couldn't wait. After years of watching the other lot pick up trophy after trophy and rubbing our noses in it we now had a taste of how it felt with the boot on the other foot and boy did it taste great! The problem is it hasn't happened. There are numerous reasons for this, a hostile media, FFP, every club getting millions just by being in the premier league, so being able to strengthen in a way they couldn't when the rags and dippers had it stitched up for years, with the champions league money ensuring they dominated the league. So in a bizarre way we felt cheated......cheated out of a golden period we anticipated we could enjoy and revel in.

Fast forward to today. For three years we have been preparing for arguably the greatest coach in world football. Surely this arrival, backed by the billions of the Sheik would now ensure the dream would come true........getting tonked 4-2 at Leicester and 4-0 at Everton, with a defence that appears non existent, a forward line that can't score and a keeper who seems invisible as every shot on target seems to end up in the back of our net has crushed all optimism, rightly or wrongly. All the demons of our shitty past are coming back to haunt us, ''Typical City, we will never be good enough, always be a laughing stock, also ran's!'' Thirty five years of mediocrity have left us mentally scarred whether we like to believe that or not and it doesn't take long for the self doubts to resurface. So for me it isn't 'Self entitlement' rather fear that no matter what we do we will contrive to cock it up just like the old days, that we are indeed cursed and ultimately doomed to fail. The majority of our fan's are still waiting for Jeremy Beadle to pop out and shout ''You've been framed!!!''

In a strange way it was easier being a City fan in the old days. We never expected to win anything so we went for the crack and were proud of our loyalty which was recognised throughout football. Our highlights were turning over the big boy's, especially the rags and a decent cup run. Our expectations were zero so anything resembling success was a bonus. I doubt any football fan totally enjoys following their club as the stress and fear of failure only dissipates when your team is 3-0 up with five minutes to go and coasting.

So we have all of the above added to the bullshit going on with showsec, the club not appearing to listen or discuss issues with fan's except for endless bloody survey's in the form of an e mail and we are where we are. We have always been a strange breed us Blues, we had to be or we wouldn't have stuck around so long. If we feel the club don't give a fuck about us, or even worse want us out to be replaced by a happy clapping spend more fan relishing the 'Matchday experience' it won't take much to tip us over the edge. So that part is a two way street too.

As for Pep I think he will get it right but I feel 'Backing his entire reputation and career' on doing the business for us is a bit OTT. Every manager does that in every job he takes on. He is being paid handsomely for doing so and backed by the richest owner in world football with some of the best facilities in the sport, he has to succeed surely?

When we sunk to the depth's of what was the old third division the club got down on bended knee pleading with us to to stick with them and we did, as we always would with or without the plea. It has been a while since as a fan base we think they feel the same about us anymore and this is creating division and unrest. It would just need some words from the chairman and/or manager to galvanise the whole club and fan base to unite again, as Blues we love nothing better than a ''It is us against the world'' cause, come on let's get back to where we were as a fan base and watch us take off!

Great post

5-8 years would be ideal for a manager IMO.

5 years creates a powerhouse at the top of Europe, puts us in the CL semi's or better every year, gives him time to get the perfect team and take it somewhere.

8 years would be create a dynasty. He's said it will take us a decade to catch up with Bayern, Real, Barcelona, so that would he taking us 90% of the way there.

Really enjoyed that Chapo. It puts things into perspective but we`ll still have the moaners every time we get beat.It could only happen being a Blue, people shouting over the weekend to get rid of arguably the greatest worldwide Manager.
