Donald Trump

When I travelled through America to come back from Canada the USA border patrol man asked me how long I would be in America for and I said approx 3 hours and he said ' good decision'!! Granted that was before Trump became President but....................!!!!

Next time I go to Canada I make sure I get a direct flight!!

I don't blame you, make sure you fill out an eTA before you go though.

My pennies worth, Trump has only done what he said he would do if he was voted in as president, there's no way I would have voted for him, mind you. Clinton was exactly great either, but was the better of the two.

First of all don't act with indecent haste by rushing to be the first to visit him. This shows need and desperation.
Then don't compound your error by issuing a grovelling invitation to a state visit. That decision is already beginning to rebound on her.
Try to show a bit more bottle in your answers to difficult questions on differences, at least say we can't agree on everything or if you have to be evasive and you can't think on your feet( she can't) try to prepare yourself in advance for awkward questions. On Mexico she could have said something along the lines of "I hope this situation can be resolved between the USA and Mexico", when she was in Turkey she could have said " I don't agree with the immigration ban, the UK and the U.S. don't always agree on everything". Instead her first reaction was to be seen not to disagree with the Don, and then the later clarification from Downing Street is just a grovelling attempt to distance herself from him in the nicest possible way.
In short cut out the grovelling and fawning. The Don only "respects" strong people.
Well, if you're trying to enter the diplomatic corps, the above approach is best avoided.
What is 'Grovelling' about requesting the US president to visit Britain?
I get you don't adore Trump, he's not exactly on my list of the people I'd have a pint with, but you are effectively
asking the Prime minister adopt a belligerent tone, to assuage the despair, bitterness and grief of those who can't stand him.
Other world leaders will be arranging meetings with him, they have to, but for some reason ours is to be castigated for
meeting him first. Before we cast judgement on the ****, let's at least see how everything pans out.

Still don't get why you're making a big deal out of it. What am I missing?
Cake and eat it.

It's one thing to take advantage of the offer of citizenship but if you're going to do that, do it. Don't hang on to the past just in case. Citizenship is a two way street, it comes with strings, in this case all those people who chose to hold on to their previous nationality are now experiencing the consequence of that decision. So when a British MP moans that he may be banned because he still holds an Iraq passport I have zero fucking sympathy.

Sounds like a good idea to have your cake and eat it. No laws broken.

As for the MP, I don't give a shit but I didn't quote that. It was the regular guy who could lose his job due to dual citizenship.

Is it dual passport's in general you have a problem with?

Don't really see the problem. My mum had one with India as well as Britain for many years. Just helps with travel etc.

The conservative MP Nadim Zahawi has suddenly found karma is a bitch...

Not sure the two are comparable.

It's top trolling from Trump this.

The limiting Visa programme is an Obama policy https://www.dhs.gov/news/2016/02/18/dhs-announces-further-travel-restrictions-visa-waiver-program
And the suspending visa approval countries are also from countries selected by Obama https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1187

I'm fucking lost now.

So Trump is doing what Obama was already doing, but the press are coming down like a ton of bricks on him for continuing an existing policy?

It's getting weird now.

It is a strange state of affairs.

I have no doubt he's right and the media are desperately trying to take him down, and this is exactly the kind of thing that would completely undermine them.

The issue is a) he doesn't have the tact to convey this to the people b) he's relying on breitbart to deliver this angle on things and c) that still doesn't mean he's not a nut job.

But the press are definitely doing their best to ruin the man.

Yes, I have a problem with someone declaring dual nationality. And "just helps with travel" is clearly not always the case.

If only the press did their homework they would know whoose idea it was, and it gives him another stick to beat them with, which may have been the plan.

If it was already enacted under Obama why have people not been stranded at airports before now?

Why have legal steps not been undertaken until now?

Seems a bit fishy.

I'm not sure how close it is to whatever Congress allowed of previous versions, but I'd think that instigating it overnight without a preparation period is guaranteed to be worse than giving a lead-in time.
