Off to Italy this weekend to celebrate my birthday and to watch Atalanta on Sunday.

We're spending the night in Milan on Friday and then Bergamo Saturday and Sunday.

We're looking for nice places to eat in Milan and Bergamo and obviously somewhere to go out on the piss afterwards.

Any recommendations?

Went to both in November. I was pleasantly surprised by Bergamo - nice little old town on top of the hill. I was more there for the footie than the sights so we ate at a Pizzeria opposite the ground. You'd be pretty unlucky to find a bad pizza in Italy and the one at the ground was decent but probably no better or worse than anywhere in town.

The ground itself is a shit hole, but it was a good atmosphere, especially when they scored a last minute pen against Roma.

Went straight from there to the San siro for the derby so didn't get much time to mooch around for a drink. Can't help you much there.

Didn't get much time in Milan either on that trip either but from memory I think there is plenty options for food and drink in the Brera part of town.

Hi mate

The best places to eat and drink in Bergamo are probably in the Old Town. Lots of pubs there and a restaraunt that overlooks the rest of the town called the Cooperativa.

Ca 'dell'Oste next ground and the cooperativa in the old town

There is a bar down a side street called Ca "del" Oste very close to the ground, not far from the Curva Nord, where the Atalanta die hards and the odd visitor (as long as your supporting Atalanta) drink together. It's cheaper than the other bars and has a friendly atmosphere.

A lot of the Atalanta fans speak good English and are very helpful. If you go in the Curva Nord and stand in the middle of the stand be prepared to chant for the 90 minutes. The Atalanta fans are very proud of their town and like visitors who take an interest in their club.

Was in Milan a few months ago and it was good to see the Douma and La Scala. Very expensive round there like you would expect.

There are decent places to eat at affordable prices not far from Lombrate station. There is a lively pub with a big range of ales and live music / DJ at Birrificio Lambrate close to Lambrate station.

Excellent, thanks very much for the tips, Tim.

Bit up in air, where are you staying. Ps glad it's not just me, old age is a bastard :-)

I've not got anything booked yet mate. Awaiting the results of X-rays on my dodgy knees. I don't think it will stop me getting there and I'm going to West Ham today.

I've switched to the Guinness and hopefully that's better for the memory cells lol
