My first 'favourite player' growing up was Gordon Banks (I was 7) and sort of supported them without really knowing much about football. I saw the light not long afterwards.

Burnley away September, 1969. Ian Bowyer scored in a 1-1 draw. Got Joe Mercer's autograph afterwards (lovely man) whilst Franny Lee told us to eff off. First home game a school trip (from Cumbria) in October, 1971. A Lee penalty beat Everton 1-0.
