Over-used word, but so apt for this fantastic singer - a true legend - part of my youth - as Jazzman says - we are getting old. RIP Aretha.

Agreed. Sadly being a “star” these days is solely based on how many times you’ve been photographed, by ok magazine, stumbling stoned out of some dive or other at 4 in the morning, rather than whether you can actually sing or not

Sad to hear. Left behind some absolutely wonderful music. Funnily enough my first and standout memory of her is from The Blues Brother movie.

I think Amy would have been the one that lasted and most of those who have died young like prince and MJ,all broke new ground in their own way

That too :) always a bit bittersweet when someone like this passes away, sorry they're gone but so grateful for the music they've left behind.
