I was reading Kompany's book, My Inside Story of Manchester City's Greatest Ever Season, and what he says regarding Mendy, and his injuries is worrying:

"Once he's back to full fitness this autumn he might have to think more, taking into account his body's weaknesses and play less instinctively. It's unlikely he'll be the same player when he eventually returns."

Pep was used to fullbacks like Dani Alves, Abidal and Lahm in their prime, also Alaba, and those players were crucial tactically for playing the Pep way. Kind of like Robertson and TAA are both crucial for Klopp now.

He's a nice guy and he could have had an amazing career but it's just not going to happen anymore. We always knew he was average in defense but he would bring crazy speed off the wing with excellent crosses. What happened to him? He is afraid to go on the attack, as if someone tells him if you cross the ball, you tear off the ACL. He is just awful, has nothing on him, is terrible in defense and contributes nothing to the attack. Sell or loan him at any cost
