Var debate 2019/20

The decision against Micah was a disgraceful one from Dowd - VAR overturning today's "pen" was the correct decision under the current handball law, if anything is at fault it's the law rather than VAR.
When the same thing happens in week or two & the pen stands ?

I hate VAR and want it gone but today's penalty just isn't a penalty.

HANDLING THE BALL

It is an offence if a player:
  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, including moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • gains possession/control of the ball after it has touched their hand/arm and then:
    • scores in the opponents’ goal
    • creates a goal-scoring opportunity
  • scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
It is usually an offence if a player:

  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when:
    • the hand/arm has made their body unnaturally bigger
    • the hand/arm is above/beyond their shoulder level (unless the player deliberately plays the ball which then touches their hand/arm)
The above offences apply even if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close.

Except for the above offences, it is not usually an offence if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm:

  • directly from the player’s own head or body (including the foot)
I think you're misinterpreting the new laws to be honest....

The following will not usually be a free kick, unless they are one of the above situations:
• the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from their own head/body/foot or the head/body/foot of another player who is close/near
• the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which is close to their body and has not made their body unnaturally bigger
•if a player is falling and the ball touches their hand/arm when it is between their body and the ground to support the body (but not extended to make the body bigger)

So not a free kick for any of those cases UNLESS one of these situations apply....

The following ‘handball’ situations, even if accidental, will be a free kick:
• the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand/arm
• a player gains control/possession of the ball after it has touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunity

• the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger
• the ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm)

So not a penalty if it hits your arm AFTER it's come of your own body part UNLESS you've made your body unnaturally bigger. So, sliding to block a cross with your arms outstretched and the ball hits your arm means it's a pen NO MATTER IF IT'S ACCIDENTAL OR IF IT COMES OFF YOUR HEAD/BODY/FOOT.

You're welcome ;)

PIGMOL/Prem are not using it as the governing body told them to,they have been told twice and will be again next month, thats why its a clusterfuck, fucking smartarses in black here think they know better

Did a ref look at a monitor today? var was never going to let them,it was pure bollocks that they said they would

Each PL club should be asked for their 10 top issues with VAR this season-except the Scouse Tw*ts of course who will only have good things to say. There should then be a seminar involving the powers that be on all sides to go through those issues and change the law/interpretation of law/how VAR is used/application of the law until there is a majority agreement on all of the issues. Many clubs will have similar gripes and so the key ones should get covered. Overriding all of this is that all of the officials are miked up and the fans get to hear the conversation and that the first port of call to make the final decision should be pitch side screen. Unfortunately VAR ain't going away but it's high time the clubs started to steer the whole matter to the good of the game and most of all the fan base.

You have added the middle but yourself to try and change the actual law. I already included the wording which categorically says it's not a penalty.

I'll ask you do you think the penalty against Micah Richards was fair?
