Once got involved in a complex employment case - regarding “protected rights” for older employees a few years ago and whether they were consistent with age legislation. Employer said they weren’t and Union (CWU) said they were. Our side (the Employer) hired a QC Andrew Hochhauser - Essex Chambers. Christ he dismantled our side for breakfast before beating the living daylights out of the other side. His grasp of facts was immense, his power of argument something to behold - but Christ was he scary. Dunno what he cost but never been in a room with anyone as good as him before or since.
Yeah, the top commercial silks inhabit a different world. As clever as I like to think I am, these guys are on another level entirely. They deserve the top dollar. There’s lots riding on their advice.

He made the fatal mistake of asking me about UEFA'S change to FFP so I took him through it and he published an article about it, having checked with Rob Wilson at Sheffield Hallam University who agreed I was correct. Of course, that attracted the attention of hyenas like Castles and Harris.

always going to happen stuff like that ain’t it

Gary was naïve and tried to engage with Harris as a rational individual but Harris was clearly on the verge of the breakdown he had at the time. I don't know what he said but I do know Gary was very shaken and upset, so it must have been quite bad.

harris is a bully, soon melted when confronted at Wembley last season

I see I’ve come in for some fair abuse on here for an apparently stupid comment.

However, let me just explain why I’m concerned. Reading the 2000 plus pages on here has given me the assurance that City are on safe grounds and will win the case. Ranging from, UEFA didn’t even look at our defence to proof that the Etihad sponsorship was clearly paid by the Executive Council from Abu Dhabi and not from our owners.

The lawyer we hired is famous for a technicality in fighting Brexit. So while I’m as concerned as everyone else here on the outcome, I’m merely questioning the need for this kind of approach for our case. Obviously I don’t want the shittiest lawyers but just asking why we really have to get the best at 20k if we’re sure of our case?
Probably because if we don’t hire the best UEFA will. They’ve had the deck stacked in their favour so far so we hopefully get to realign that at CAS.

Time will tell if we did break the rules, and if so by how much. If it proves we did, but we didn’t try our best to defend ourselves we’d feel foolish and be seen as pretty stupid (more so than we already appear for writing down in emails the stuff we did... that has got us into this mess). We need the best people to articulate our position as well as having the best create our case and hopefully rip theirs to pieces.

To put it into context about potential value. We probably paid the likes of Danny Mills, over the lifetime of his contract, significantly more than this guy and his team will cost.

Hopefully the lawyers give us a better return.
