The death of VAR

When you watch the tactics bit on MNF with Ratboy he has a still shot of an actual game and using the technology he 'slides' a defender on the screen to a position where should have been, its seamless and looks to the viewing pundit like he could have been stood there all the time...... now, if they were to do that with the VAR offsides nobody would be any the wiser, you could even make the goalkeeper look offside with that level of technology.

Totally expecting Leicester to get F'd over tomorrow. If they are going to do it then that's the best time as they'll be far more scrutiny on decisions if it goes to a 'winner takes it all' game.

If Chelsea lost at Liverpool, and both Utd and Leicester both win, I think a regulation 0-0 in that final game puts Chelsea out of the top 4.
True, but Liverpool will just be turning up for the trophy presentation and the socially responsible party much like we did against Huddersfield a couple of years ago

There is nothing wrong with VAR. What's wrong with VAR is those officials who run VAR. They are the problem. Them and no one else.. Whether they are following the laws of the game, who knows.

Sometimes it looks like they are making the laws of the game up to suit themselves.

Will never happen, and the reason is they will need sometime to set the narrative and come up with the excuses, so they can justify the decision
Completely understand, wide open to collusion. Until that changes, just takes the piss out of paying fans.

There's ways to fix VAR.

First, being back retired referees who don't care about the current referees' feelings.

Second, get rid of the offside lines. Indisputable visual evidence only, the lines are not indisputable.

Third, pitch side monitors

Fourth, transparency. Allow the public to hear the VAR conversation, also mic the referee and make him announce the decision in the ground so people know wtf is going on.
Five; Fuck it right off.

People saying it is not VAR it is the refs I do think you're wrong. The very issue with VAR is it puts everything under a microscope where rules cannot apply. The referee is a judge, he judges if a tackle is dangerous, if a handball foul is a handball foul.

Even redefining offside so there is clear daylight - Clear daylight where? between the legs, at the hips, when the bal.l is played, in the millisencods after/before it is played make inches of difference still!. VAR just keeps moving the decision down the line, VAR will never be the definitive tool they wanted, it's just tying us up in knots

I am convinced we need to go back to the ref judging on the game and using the monitor to aid him. But whatever there shouldnt be some other group of guys making decisions, that just introduces so many more opinions into it

Apart from the fact the camera frame rate isn't fast enough, meaning the speed at which an attacking player is running can't be accurately judged. This makes offside calls subjective as to where the player was when the pass was made, and were there is subjectivity there is opportunity for corruption and/or bias, cognisant or otherwise.

Haha, it's much more subtle than this. It can be where they decide when a pass is made and have license to (manipulate) move it on 5-10 frames on from when the ball was actually played especially when you don't get a clear view of the boot and ball. That up to 10 frames of movement is 0.2 seconds of time elapsed and can be the difference between players being on or offside.

That or they can just mug people off in plain sight like they did by first awarding Bruno Fernandes a penalty against Villa and then VAR upholding the refs initial decision and not even asking him to review it on pitchside monitors.

Agreed. Hopefully we get high frame rate cameras to judge offside calls in the future. No reason why they can't have it in place in time for VAR's third season.

It's gone from Referees making mistakes on the pitch to Referees making mistakes in the office. VAR has turned out to be a total waste of time.
