Can't believe I am reading some of this stuff. He isn't coming to be a 'back up'. It will be rotation and once this lad gets in the side, he will be tough to shift. There will be a lot of humble pie on here when some see him play for us. Great signing, knows the premier league and Pep will take him up to another level.

If I’m not mistaken: he’s left footed. Aymeric Laporte plays in that position and he’s one hell of a defender.

£40m rising to £41m appears extremely unusual.
What could that £1m possibly be?
Anyone able to shed any light on this?

If chelsea have that “right to match” clause I wonder whether the 40+1 is misinformation. If they only have the right to know the total value could be £41m then saying most of it is upfront makes it less likely to be matched.

More likely to be 25+15 or 30+10 or 35+5 but I dont know how these deals get done

Oh a twist

Chelsea have a lot of CBs. Would they be prepared to shell out that sort of dough on another one? Yes; I'm aware that we have our share of CBs as well. But at least two of them will almost definitely be shipped out this summer. Maybe 3, if Garcia goes as well (hopefully not).

No point agreeing a 30m fee only for Chelsea to swoop in. This way we might put them off.

Excellent signing- he can play LCB, LB and DM. It means we will not be as heavily reliant on Laporte moving forward. We need another CB though as it doesn't look like Stones can be rehabilitated and Garcia is too young to be first choice.

Never going to be able to low ball Bournemouth because half the league would stump up the money they ask for. £41million is a reasonable fee, he’s essentially replacing Otamendi who we paid 30 for and has home grown status. Giver us some good depth at left centre back, now for the right.

What is all this shite about 3rd choice from some posters on here it’s a squad game with plenty of competition for places,a strong squad is our main goal and we look to be strengthing the weak areas, end of!

I think that if Pep were to chose his ideal partner to Laporte, it would be Koulibaly, Skriniar, Ruben Dias or Carlos. I don’t believe he buys a left footed Aké to play with Laporte in the big big games. I still think 41m is a bit too much for him considering Bournemouth got relegated.
