Paul Walsh article

Interesting read. Surprised he said he thought City fans didn't want him.

When we bought him, he was about 32 and had dropped down out of the top flight to play for Pompey after completely falling out of favour at Spurs. With two months of the season left, we were looking in serious danger of going down.

To say City fans didn't want him is a bit strong, but plenty were suggesting that he might be past it and not the player we needed to help us avoid relegation. Within less than a month, he'd won the crowd over, but he was certainly met with a fair bit of scepticism when he first signed.

Fond memories of his time under Horton and the cavalier attacking football we were playing.

He came to us as a player many saw as past it,but he built his confidence and he did great.Like many a former player that wears our shirt, irrespective of where their heart lies, they find an affinity with us that stays with them.

He may even have been his most prolific in terms of his career while playing here?

Alan Ball was probably,.....no, definitely, the worst manager I remember us having. Utterly shite !
An honest article, probably demonstrates much of the culture of the time, glad hes moved on. Was amazing at times for us under Horton, never realised how good he was til he played for us. And then Ball swapped him for Creaney...
