Ricky Hatton RIP

Always thought the Magee fight was a coming of age fight for Ricky.
Got dropped from the tough irishman but got back up and attacked him to the final bell, winning the fight.
A true Man City warrior
It was, the first time he met a dangerous counter puncher who used his aggression against him.

That was a great time for British boxing, I don't think fans realised it until later on but the Ingle Gym, Hatton, Lennox, Eubank, Benn all together or just after the other.

Magee himself is another who has had similar demons.

Away on holiday at the minute and was first alerted to this tragic news by my lad who has had his own struggles with his mental health. Been quite an emotional afternoon conversing with him and reading the tributes on here and elsewhere.

About to head off out to the watch the game. Hopefully the lads will feed off that emotion but more importantly show the battling spirit for which he was renowned.

RIP

Met him once when I was a 16 years old and just got a job working in The Mancunian in the ground on match day. I felt well out of my depth and was getting well overwhelmed working in such a busy restaurant. Then I saw Ricky coming down the corridor and opened the door for him and he said thank you and gave me a quick pat on the shoulder and it was so small but to 16 year old city fan it made my day and the rest of the shift I was buzzing. Not the best story but he made my day better just by being Ricky Hatton.

R.I.P Ricky.

Wrong mate - it's a great story of how small gestures can go far.........

Terrible news, am distraught .... he was City through and through, but he just hasn't looked well to me for some time, even though there was talk of him launching a comeback in the ring.

I really hope we win this derby for him.

I thought he looked to be in much better shape in the last few years and it looked like he turned his life around. I really hope it wasn't suicide. He had the world at his feet with all that money but money can't bring happiness by itself

That was a brutal war with Magee, both men were wearing a mask of blood afterwards. He was a true warrior Ricky, not one ounce of quit in him, you had to knock him out to stop him coming forward and throwing at you.
