RIP Champ...used to love staying/getting up at all hours to watch him fight....sat here welling up at all the tributes and stories on here about him....what a legend...rest easy now champ and watch your beloved blues from the Kippax in the sky...
It was, the first time he met a dangerous counter puncher who used his aggression against him.Always thought the Magee fight was a coming of age fight for Ricky.
Got dropped from the tough irishman but got back up and attacked him to the final bell, winning the fight.
A true Man City warrior
Wrong mate - it's a great story of how small gestures can go far.........Met him once when I was a 16 years old and just got a job working in The Mancunian in the ground on match day. I felt well out of my depth and was getting well overwhelmed working in such a busy restaurant. Then I saw Ricky coming down the corridor and opened the door for him and he said thank you and gave me a quick pat on the shoulder and it was so small but to 16 year old city fan it made my day and the rest of the shift I was buzzing. Not the best story but he made my day better just by being Ricky Hatton.
R.I.P Ricky.
Terrible news, am distraught .... he was City through and through, but he just hasn't looked well to me for some time, even though there was talk of him launching a comeback in the ring.
I really hope we win this derby for him.

That was a great time for British boxing, I don't think fans realised it until later on but the Ingle Gym, Hatton, Lennox, Eubank, Benn all together or just after the other.
Magee himself is another who has had similar demons.
