President Trump

Or simply give the whole country a swerve, you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to go there at the moment and that's coming from someone who's been 5 times and loved it.
Same here. Despite the hideous cost I'd love to go back to New York a second time while I'm fit, and see friends in Chicago and Minneapolis, but can't justify the hassle.

It’s a little early for that, don’t you think?

Closed session to discuss security matter and do some housekeeping.

When the trial actually starts, it would appear to be in the public, indeed National, interest, and I might be more inclined to have certain feelings then were the case to take place solely in private.

I recogniz(s)e many don’t/won’t come over for WC, but for those that do, I hope England makes the final because you know he’ll be at it. I expect all brainpower will be devoted to coming up with some fine songs so you all can tell him just what you think of him, as befits English footy fans.
it's a nice idea but given the price of tickets, I don't see that many real football fans at the final, prawn sandwiches all round I expect

Pretty much this.

No one is going to buy massively overpriced tickets - prices will come down... way, way down.

America is now extremely hostile towards non-Americans. And increasingly so. Non-American fans at US venues for the WC I think will be low.

As for England - you've a manager who is putting together a team designed to win - and not one full of the "best" superstars. The competition is fierce - but Godspeed. I'm routing for England to win the World Cup.

projections of over a million visitors attending matches in the U.S , maybe a few group stage matches wont be sold out but the big dogs will be.

America hostile? Trump or Americans generally?

I know a fair few UK folk who were planning on going to the US when it was first announced who are now giving it a swerve due ticket pricing/allocation and the current political climate. I genuinely hope the US based game attendances suffer and that Canada and Mexico do really well.

I'm sure prices will come down on the secondary market for many of these games, but that doesn't really help anyone who wants to fly in from overseas and needs to book a flight and lodging. I've always thought this WC was mainly for diaspora fans but they are making it impossible for foreign ones.

The secondary ticket sales are being run by FIFA and there are no limits on price. Unsurprisingly, FIFA are charging 15% fee's to both seller and buyer meaning they will take a 30% overall cut, so it's in their best interest to ramp up the costs as much as they can.

Greedy c**t's!!!

Yes but you can still get them on Stubhub and the like. Not that I would considering how sketchy those sites can be, and the sums involved.

I suspect a lot of people who bought officially in the early sales rounds without knowing who was playing are going to be scrambling to sell their tickets for a pittance come June, and that will be yet another PR disaster for FIFA.

Whole thing is a PR disaster already.

I’ve been around a dozen times, loved every visit, and there’s no chance I’ll go back for the foreseeable, which actually makes me sad.
100% agree. I was a regular visitor as well. Disney/Universal are not even a consideration while this regime is in power.
Sadly i have British friends out there, who i will not be visiting until it is a safe country again.
I don't even discuss Trump with them in messages in case it somehow gets them in trouble.

Imagine how bad that last sentence being in reference to the United States Of America! Not Iran/N Korea or even Russia....the US FFS!

The Land Of The Free eh...

Was in New York a few weeks ago and it was fine. It was a wonderful experience and the people were as friendly as I've come to expect. I think most US citizens have insulated themselves from Trump's bullshit, probably for their own mental well-being; but were the opposite true, the trick would be to not mention politics.
