Crystal Palace (A) I PL I Post Match Thread

He is spot on.
He has been a lot better this season but struggled today and against Madrid. He has regained his confidence though so has that ability to provide big moments for us with his shooting. Similiar to how KdB always could provide a shot from distance or a cross that changed the game for us

These are the performances that win leagues. It's not pretty, there is no flowing football creating great goals, there is no destroying teams - but there is hard work, there is resilience, there is recovery from mistakes - not dwelling on them, there are moments where we might give away a goal, there is having to deal with fouls not given and good tackles called as fouls, there is dealing with balls lumped into the box where anything could happen - and finding three moments of class that makes it look as if we had a nice comfortable afternoon.

I've voted for Gvardiol as Man of the March because it was a day for defending, but all the back five played their part. Nico G had to deal with some overload and dodgy refereering and came through it all, Foden and Silva had to grind it out in the middle, they didn't win every challenge or complete every pass, but they made the ones that counted - all of which gave Cherki and Halland the chance to shine by doing what they do (with some defending whenever they needed to help out). Great cameo by Silvio - did what we needed to break out and win the penalty - although I never thought he was going to score.

good stuff all round - I presume most will get a break on Wednesday and be ready to deal with West Ham and perhaps just sneak top for a couple of hours.

Same as Madrid really, the second best team but we got away with it. I think we have scored 5 goals from 6 chances over the two games, of which 2 were penalties and one from a corner.

We aren't going to carry on getting away with performances like this. Rodri is needed back desperately.
You dont 'get away with' beating Madrid and Palace away in the space of 5 days

At this time of year, the result is more important than the performance and its job done.

There are major issues with our midfield and I would hope we are going to try and solve those on the 1st January. It could be the difference between winning the title and not.
Question is who do we bring in & as much as I rate Wharton hes more of a Rodri replacement who can dictate the play by recycling the ball & picking passes than someone whos a ball winning midfielder

We had 8 shots on target to Madrid's 1 and a better xg even taking out the penalty. Got away with what exactly?

Sky match report… spot the error. Clueless at times.

The goal, Haaland's 17th of the season in the Premier League, came after the Palace 'keeper had saved his penalty in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May and put the seal on an impressive victory which underlines City's title credentials.

Mmm not sure about that Nico O'R met have been playing him on.
Still they didn't have too many other real chances.
I think O'Reilly was playing him on .... Palace were a handful at times though, early on, but we steadied the ship a bit after Erlings goal, and gradually began to exert control of the game throughout the 2nd half..

It ain’t always pretty and it’s definitely not Centurions quality football but we are grinding out results in difficult games

Today was a great example. We were actually quite poor in the first half, improved enormously in the second and ground out a terrific win.

If we start to play like we really can we will blow the league wide open.

I think Savinho should get an assist for the penalty. That was a great run, and it lead directly to the goal.

In fact, I think that's good suggestion, I'll email the premier League after I've had a few more ales and suggest it for next season.
Willing him on to score for that one. Would be great for him . Excellent run though and hope it gives him some confidence and good we got a goal out of it.

Henderson claiming Savi dived pissed me right off. It's like he thinks VAR won't check.... Oh hang on.

****!!!
He’s an absolute mega ****, saw him at the end of the match looked like he was trying to ingratiate himself possibly with Phil until Bernardo guided him away - clearly no respect for the cheating twat
