Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

I counted 7 back heels or flicks tonight.
Think it’s the Cherki effect in training
Definitely seeing Phil do more back heels and flicks this season along with Cherki working his magic it's opening up teams for fun.
It's obvious our new Zabba will get a few suspensions through out the season. But is recoveries are up there with Walkers pace. Really happy to see him gain in confidence and influence the game especially in the second half.
Ake was solid throughout the game too.
Plenty to like last night and that includes Savio. CTID

Thought all of them played well. Comfortable evening all round. Splendid goal from Cherki.

Felt for Bobb, hopefully he's ok.

I see the BBC leading with some shit about should Khushanov have seen red. The two wankers on Sky couldn't let it go either. Hinchcliffe is a gigantic fucking bore.

Great win and great to be able to rotate and still win. The crying over the Khusanov challenge, the lad took the ball away from goal with his toucha and was never clean through, and if var was in play then I suspect he'd have been called offside - the lad Schade spent the entire game offside.

Still, silly challenge from Khusanov, especially as he showed later on that he has the pace to deal with Schade.

Amazing goal from Cherki, thought Savinho was very positive too - needs to be more consistent in his finishing but have to credit his attitude and play given he's been in and out of the team.

Great to give some game time to the youngsters too, nobody looked out of place. Thought Brentford missed a trick by not targeting our right side, especially after the yellow card, but I get that Andrews is still green.

Watching back the commentary, the usual spiteful bile - city should have down to ten, Brentford only went behind to a wonder goal, Brentford unlucky with a hugely deflected Savinho shot. But my favourite was, after about half an hour, when the co commentator says Brentford are on top and the stats pop up as Brentford one shot on goal, city 6, and city bossing possession, and he starts moaning about how it feels much closer! A few minutes later, one nil! At least someone there either is a city fan or has a sense of humour!

To be fair to him while he was a city player though, I found him to be good to the fans. For example I used to write to a lot of the players, the usual fan mail kids do (or did, I doubt they do now to players), and I made cards for the ones I liked best -ala the film misery ;)
But I fancied Andy, I known know I'm a fool, but I really did, it was the 86 era bare chested in the youth cup winning picture that started me off.
Anyway, unlike a lot of players, he used to write back, and not just a signed photo but actual handwritten letters, answering my inane questions, for example what did he think of the kit (he hated the red and black checks fact fans) and what o levels did he get (lovely long reply about how I should work hard at school etc). Point is he was great to me back then, even sent me a birthday card when my sister wrote and asked him. Only the Jason Donovan of city David Oldfield was nicer! ( And David didn't even escape my fandom when he went to leicester!!)

I know that doesn't excuse the media bias nowadays, but thought I'd say I found him good to young fans, even if he thought everyone else was a twat!

And, judging by this post and every reply Everton fans think he hates them and never has a good word to say in their commentary. So I think it's just generally his bad style, thinks being negative gets viewers!

Good insight that.

Don't remember him having many bad games for City, and was there at Anfield on the 1st day of the season when we were newly promoted into the top league and Hinchliffe scored from a deflected free kick in front of the away end to put us level at 1-1..
After the joy of promotion at Bradford in May , we were now level at the home of the league champions ,and I thought our young team led by Mel Machin has really arrived..we were on our way!!
Liverpool then did what Liverpool always did then and over powered us ,scoring twice more ,3-1 scousers ,typical City early August new season dreams crushed ....not long to wait tho till Hinchliffe s finest hour September 23rd 1989....Maine Road Massacre; ))

Funny how the bbc or any other MSM ignored the Newcastle defender taking out Foden in the penalty box with that disgraceful tackle few weeks back .....clear red card and penalty
We got neither.

I’ve no idea on how Andy Hinchcliffe left the club but fuck me what a miserable bastard.
If he hadn’t scored the 5th ‘marvellous stuff’ in the MRM then he’d be irrelevant to me like so many others.

Last night was a disgrace and we should ban the prick from the Stadium.

I enjoyed the match, i thought it was a good run out for the squad and they did the job well. Lots of nice interplay, good minutes for many, and i thought it felt quite realxed. I had a feeling Foden would be a rare subbed-on and subbed-off situtation.

Khusanov red? i felt the attacker had pushed the ball slightly wide with his last touch, and that's what the ref went with. Who cares, it wasnt, and getting on with it was pre-VAR life.

I thought Brentford were toss, is that how they play in the league? i cant believe they have a striker on 11 goals in the league.

Thought Lewis and Reijnders in particular were poor.
Lewis was fine apart from one incident where the wide player made a run on his blind side and Khus had to bail him out

It was the sort of game you'd expect Reijnders to control and he was one of the poorer players on the night, but he still contributed some good moments
He's still new and has to be given time

Thought exactly the same. Similarly 4-4 at the swamp was game of season other night whereas we clung on robbing Fulham of the rightful points when we won 5-4. The spin is incredible
