Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

It was the most City like performance so far this season.

After the first 20 minutes I thought we were in total control.

Some great one touch football, especially from Cherki, Foden and O’Reilly (what a player)

Horrible night and got soaked after the game.

A Week before Christmas and awful kick off time aside…..poor turnout for a quarter final.

How we longed for a quarter final before take over.

I thought that was a weak performance but it was good enough to beat a very weak side.
more about how we played and kept possession ...the players looked connected and seemed much more focused even though there were 7 changes to the side......it seemed a lot more fluid rather than forced as it has seemed some games this season

A routine win.

Anyone else beginning to get the feeling that we've quietly embarked on a 25 game winning run ..... shades of 20/21 for me
I wouldn't go that far, but in some ways it was the most reassuring performance all season. First time in a while it looked like we were in first gear with a bunch of squad players, just zero risk we were losing it once we got a foothold.

Really starting to feel if we can just improve a bit in key moments the possibilities for the season look wide open.

That Pep fella, maybe he does know this football malarkey thing after all.

Basically he’s just a **** of a man

Many years ago my mate who was a painter / decorator was on a job at Platt Lane

He said most of the players were ignorant but Hinchcliffe was by far the worst

The best were Kendal and Clive Allen
Hinchliffe s schooling set him apart from both team mates and fans...Think he was a posh / private school type kid who would prob hv not had the sense to come across easily to working class supporters and team mates around him..in the 80s

I don't know who he supported as a kid......but there's a 50:50 chance he was a red.
Then joining City and making the YTS graduates...first big game v utd ,we score 5,he heads the 5th,and holds up his hands to the rags in the Platt lane end,ie 5 Fingers.....to really really rub it in ,on an explosive emotional day.....then gets dropped by Kendall for Harper, and leaves City ....
I reckon he will be one of those not sure/I. think so supporters who ve switched teams....now hates us
Howard Kendall wouldnt have helped, Kendall being a wild drinker and no time for an ex public school boy....
Left a bitter taste,maybe...he always sounds bitter when I've heard him.
Great header tho 5- 1!!

Good win. Again, some very suspect comments in the match thread.
Khusanov will become Kompany-esque in the coming years. He never even looks like it’s a through process. He just is.

Cherki will be a City great.
I keep saying , we've not seen how good Khus is yet. Could easily be one of our best signings if given the chance. I've been really frustrated that he's not had much game time yet, he's not going to get any better on the bench and it's not like we've exactly been solid at the back.

Great tackle early on, sure it was a booking but it didn't faze him and it was a near certain goal if he hadn't done it. Dickheads on commentary banging on about it should have been a red, if that happens halfway up the pitch they're calling it a great professional foul because it stopped a breakaway.

Serious question, does anyone know why he seems to have such a downer on us? I’ve thought it for years. Did he leave us on a sour note? Cannot remember anything but Jesus he is unreal. How many times did he bring up the non red for Kush?
If I remember correctly we traded him for Neil Pointon and cash as Howard Kendall was on his Everton recruitment frenzy.Dont think he wanted to leave like Ian Bishop didnt.

Very enjoyable performance in a tournament that I frankly don't give two shits about these days, but it's crucial to give the bench players game time and they played well, just a shame about Bobb's injury which makes our squad even more thin, we have to buy a winger and probably a midfielder in January.
No we don't.

You could see on his face after the incident he knew he was fortunate, so le learnt something tonight, doesn't mean he didn't have to make a challenge though.

I think it's say's a lot how good his tackles were after that.
I don't think it was a red, he's entitled to go for the ball and it was close, I actually thought he'd got something on it until I saw the replay. Ball was heading for the corner flag, he'd never have scored. If that's any other of our defenders that tackle doesn't happen, they stand off him and we're probably 0-1 down.

To be fair to him while he was a city player though, I found him to be good to the fans. For example I used to write to a lot of the players, the usual fan mail kids do (or did, I doubt they do now to players), and I made cards for the ones I liked best -ala the film misery ;)
But I fancied Andy, I known know I'm a fool, but I really did, it was the 86 era bare chested in the youth cup winning picture that started me off.
Anyway, unlike a lot of players, he used to write back, and not just a signed photo but actual handwritten letters, answering my inane questions, for example what did he think of the kit (he hated the red and black checks fact fans) and what o levels did he get (lovely long reply about how I should work hard at school etc). Point is he was great to me back then, even sent me a birthday card when my sister wrote and asked him. Only the Jason Donovan of city David Oldfield was nicer! ( And David didn't even escape my fandom when he went to leicester!!)

I know that doesn't excuse the media bias nowadays, but thought I'd say I found him good to young fans, even if he thought everyone else was a twat!

And, judging by this post and every reply Everton fans think he hates them and never has a good word to say in their commentary. So I think it's just generally his bad style, thinks being negative gets viewers!

Bobb’s injury affects our chances of success this season only slightly more than me having torn my calf playing tennis

We could do with another centre mid though to take some of the load off Nico especially when we don’t know how much of a role Kova and Rodri will be able to play
