Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

But he's 27, was Serie A's midfielder of the season and has played for the Netherlands 29 times?

Hardly a fledgling, is he?

Seems a nice bloke, but looks just another unremarkable - albeit PL-standard - player at best.
Not at all impressed by him, far too lackadaisical for me.

Hinchliffe s schooling set him apart from both team mates and fans...Think he was a posh / private school type kid who would prob hv not had the sense to come across easily to working class supporters and team mates around him..in the 80s

I don't know who he supported as a kid......but there's a 50:50 chance he was a red.
Then joining City and making the YTS graduates...first big game v utd ,we score 5,he heads the 5th,and holds up his hands to the rags in the Platt lane end,ie 5 Fingers.....to really really rub it in ,on an explosive emotional day.....then gets dropped by Kendall for Harper, and leaves City ....
I reckon he will be one of those not sure/I. think so supporters who ve switched teams....now hates us
Howard Kendall wouldnt have helped, Kendall being a wild drinker and no time for an ex public school boy....
Left a bitter taste,maybe...he always sounds bitter when I've heard him.
Great header tho 5- 1!!
William Hulme’s Grammar School along with Ashley I say Ashley Ward

I’ve just seen the Khusanov yellow and was expecting something far more obvious in terms of being a red. The striker was moving away from the centre and defenders were covering so hardly an obvious opportunity. I think pretty much any ref would have gone yellow there.
I didn't even think about that moment at the match, so it is a bit odd to see that it enraged the media. Or maybe it isn't. They don't have much else.

I wonder what the age of that starting line-up was? Nat commented on it but I didn't quite hear what she said. There was only really Ake who I think is 30 who you could call experienced.

It would not surprise me if that was the youngest side that City have fielded in a top flight match. I am too lazy to work out the average age but I do know it was very young! Our reporters, Nat, raise these points, but not the devils in sheep's clothing. They look for sticks with which to beat us.

Think it was about 22

It was one of those 'orange' cards where you can say they were lucky for getting a yellow or it was harsh if they got a red. I think the angle he'd knocked the ball and Ake coming round to cover means yellow was probably right, but couldn't have really argued with a red.

Listening to the commentary, I'm surprised Brentford haven't demanded the match to be replayed as they never shut up about it, with constant references to how the result could have been different.

But then again, before that, it had all been about how plucky, non-league part-timers Brentford would do well to get anything other than a hammering from the oil fueled machine. That's when they weren't talking about how we'd ruined Trafford's career. So a pretty normal commentary from Sky.

Lewis was fine apart from one incident where the wide player made a run on his blind side and Khus had to bail him out

It was the sort of game you'd expect Reijnders to control and he was one of the poorer players on the night, but he still contributed some good moments
He's still new and has to be given time
I'm more than willing to give Reijnders time, but barring a couple of passes he made in behind the FBs in the first half I thought he was poor again.
Again with Rico I thought there was a few times he got knocked off the ball too easily due to his size. He was very meh IMO. He's a ok squad player and obviously these are the types of games he should be used in.
Anyway solid if unspectacular performance and into the Semis.

Agree but he has to get rid of the ridiculous tackles quickly. I did originally think his yellow was a 50/50 red but upon replays he should have been sent off because Ake was never catching the forward.
That would quite possibly have knocked us out
he is rash, although I think yellow was the right call. I think Ake is a better player

I think cherki has lifted the whole squad
We seem to be playing with a confidence I’ve not seen for a few years.
Definitely brings the best out of Phil and others aswell.
Some of that intricate 1-3 yard passing in ridiculous tight situations was brilliant to watch. Brentford was shite but not taking anything away from a throw together team
That looked like they’ve played together many times before.
Those lung busting runs from Ake had me worried about his hammies but he pulled through. The two nicos are looking like proper ballers now and cherki is wonderful to watch. I’m a little concerned with reinders contribution but All in all a great performance by all and into the barcodes we go. Come on City
Cherki is a delight to watch and we have definitely gone up a gear since he has come into the team. I'm calling it now , he is a future Balon D'or winner

@Marvin. that was the story the amount of youth academy players we had on pitch through out game but that doesnt suit agenda "lucky city get favourable ref decission at 0-0 to avoid red" sounds better just amazed he didnt have picture of pep pointing finger at ref at end of game

Good win
But why is Hinchcliffe allowed to commentate?
He acted like Some Woke twat with Bernado/ Mendy incident and became a cheerleader in getting him a ban
Tonight he went after Kushnov
Screaming for a red to be handed out to him, not letting it go at all
He has a grudge against his former Club, big 1 imo
And is a pain in the ass
He's like that with all clubs. He's like a dog with a bone should anything controversial happen, just won't let it go.
Plus his constant should've done this or that is, is draining.
